[weekly challenge] Black Roses — Description
weekly challenge for

The theme was 'roses', with the concept of picking a rose color (in what I'm assuming was a Western compilation of rose meanings? they mean different things in different cultures, I don't know) to represent your character or for your character to give a rose to another. Signifying something or something.

The only rose Konstantin would give /anybody/ would be a dead one on fire to Lysander. Pretty symbolic, I think.

I picked black for Konstantin, which typically represents death and such. Originally I wanted to do something more literal, but since he's a /freaky ass disturbing sado-massochist/, I thought it might be neat to try and draw some skin abuse on his back in the shape of roses. As if someone carved roses into his back, alternating between sharp and dull knives (hence the bruising).

It still works with the black because, even though his skin pinkens like normal people's when it's abused, his blood does appear black when it comes in contact with oxygen. And it tends to malform when he's injured, hence the weird veining around the deeper roses up top.

Disturbing and fun. Done on SAI painter in about two and a half hours or so. I'm a fast worker idk
