Description

Primal Beasts serve as a good example of the perseverance of the Godly Fluids. We may marvel at their power and blessings, but see now their determination. Eitr is fading, it has been on its way out since Ichor usurped its throne. The dragons tied to it are turning to statues, the vast life it birthed has long gone extinct. And yet it is still here. Yes, it is not as plentiful and powerful as it used to be, but it is still here. Centuries have passed since it has lost its control over this world, and new life and fluid has sought to erase it. But the embers are still there, refusing to go out. That day may come, but see how long and hard it fought, even when its own kin failed to stand for it. It can still create life, no matter how abominable or misshapen. It goes to show how hard it is for a Godly Fluid to be snuffed out in this world. That may be seen as a curse for those who have to deal with the Primal Beasts, but the future may reveal it as a blessing. See the star rot falling from the skies, and the weakening hold of gold on the land. It is easy to look at this and fear the end, yet we see now that it will not be. The day may come when it is our turn to fade, but we will not go quietly. Ichor will fight to the bitter end, just as Eitr has, and we shall stand alongside it.

Yet these visions of the future bring little comfort to those who have to deal with the miseries of the present. The Primal Beasts may be appreciated for their determination and perseverance, but that is hard to admire when one is burning down your village. The thundering steps of a Primal Cyclops may feel like an echoing of a bygone era, a brief taste of life in a primordial age, but few think of that as it marches towards them. It is certainly one of the more intimidating Primal Beasts to behold. Barbed Ogres are already feared monsters, but then mutate one through Eitr, and you get this horrible juggernaut. The Primal Cyclops is built like a siege weapon, its body heavily armored with scale and spike. So encumbered by these thick defenses, it now walks upon its knuckles, upon forelimbs that have mutated into bladed pillars. Their arms are more weapon than appendage, losing its functioning fingers to create these massive spiny clubs. Yet, it is not fully robbed of hands, as an extra, smaller pair has grown around its gut. These are tasked with the more delicate work, picking up the pieces left after its bigger mitts have done their job. Their purpose is to feed it to the maw, but not the typical one that is attached to the face.

The mutation that created the Primal Cyclops has caused its stomach to rip open. A gaping hole that is now surrounded by countless spikes. Though they may look like teeth, they are not designed to chew. Rather, they shred what is shoved in and prevent it from escaping. Be they splattered chunks or whole beings, it is all jammed into this razor maw and quickly drained. The Primal Cyclops prefers soft foods and fluids, stuff easy to absorb into the body and convert. While it does eat to sustain itself, the other big reason is the singular hole that stares right at you. The empty sockets of the Barbed Ogre has fused into a single orifice, all ringed by many spikes. One could mistake that as a mouth too, but while food goes into the one below, stuff only comes out of this one. But this is no simple charged Blood spray, it is the terrifying force of Eitr unleashed like a cannon. The Primal Cyclops can fire destructive balls of Primal Flame from its eye, devastating the land and its opponents with powerful explosions. They are launched with extreme force and have an incredible range, letting it lay waste to targets before it even gets close. Encounters claim that it can shape the Primal Flame that comes from its eye, depending on the situation. It may spew forth waves of fire to clear away foes up close, or let loose a searing beam that bores through walls and heavy defenses.

By combining its body and ocular weapon, the Primal Cyclops is not a beast to be trifled with. Its fiery blasts can level villages and devastate legions, and such outcomes are hard to avoid. It needs to feed to power its flame, thus it is driven towards places with lots of food. Human settlements or fertile hunting grounds tend to be the target, and obviously man is not a fan of losing either of those. Yet, this opponent does not go down easy. Even if you dodge its many projectiles, getting up close is almost worse. Its hide is heavily armored and bristling with razor sharp spikes, blades blunt themselves trying to cut through. Its swollen forelimbs are powerful bludgeons, shattering structures with a single swing. Against a human-sized enemy, these clubs obliterate them. The basic movements of its body can be lethal, as the blades all over its form can easily slice and gore. And all the while, there is a pair of eager hands trying to grab at its assailants. It wants nothing more than to seize its enemies and feed them to its belly maw. Devour them, absorb every last drop and then use that energeiai to blast away the rest of them. The death of allies in a fight only fuels the Primal Cyclops and makes things worse, so extreme caution is called for.

Like any Primal Beast, they must be put down whenever they arise, as conflicts between them and man are inevitable. Obviously the Academy has a great deal of interest in them, thus they too are eager to track them down. To them, a Primal Cyclops is a living siege weapon, one that is born instead of built. If they could harness it and train it, the beast would work well in the war effort. Even if this is not possible, the study of its internal flame could lead to some new weapon designs. To absorb fluids and foes, then turn it into devastating Primal Flame! There are certainly some dracomaton designs that would greatly benefit from that feature! And at the very least, if one has no choice but to slay these monstrosities, there are great materials to be gained. That spiky plating could make some incredible armor with the right tools, and definitely there have been a number of souls who are tempted by this prospect. Yes, a Primal Cyclops is an utter nightmare to fight....but that armor!....

This one kinda turned out more distorted than I was originally planning, but eh, roll with it!
