Description
Though many would be loathe to admit it, there was a time before Ichor and its Four Humors. Time when this world was devoid of this golden fluid, its great graves and fallen bodies empty of such beautiful grace. But yet the land was not barren, its veins did not run dry. Long before the Church of Divine Wealth came to be, before the First Rain fell upon this land, there was Eitr and there was dragons.
What came before all this, was an age of beasts and dragons, a primordial world ruled by giants and unyielding nature. All of which was fueled by the ancient fluid Eitr. Within this liquid burned a fire, a blaze which brought forth life, much like Ichor does today. And how brightly this flame burned while the dragons ruled over all. No one can truly fathom how long this Age of Eitr lasted, but eventually all flames must fade...
The time came when Eitr grew weak, and in that fading fell the First Rain of Ichor, known as Petrichor. Ichor soon rose in power, and extinguished the Primal Flame, so came the time of gold and humors. And as this primitive age ended, so did its great titans and dragons. The ancient dragons lost their grip on the world, and fell from the heavenly heights they once perched upon. As their godly fluid faded, so did they, but they refused to simply vanish. The dragons desperately sought to bring their Eitr back, to ensure their kind went on. But the time for action had long passed, and the dragons' efforts only granted echoes of their lost power.
Though very few have seen a true dragon that came from this ancient age, especially after the betrayal, many do know the diminutive descendants that were born from their stagnant blood. The Lesser Dragons are indeed dragons that now roam these lands, but one can easily see they are mere shadows of their former glory. The tepid Eitr failed to reignite and the dragons attempts to reproduce only created diluted results. Further efforts and desperation eventually ended in these lesser forms, who lack the intelligence and mighty bronze scales. The Lesser Dragons are simple beasts, caring only for the bare necessities of life, with no dreams or desires to reclaim their throne. In a time when dragons and the Church were allies, these creatures were seen as noble beasts. But when the betrayal occurred and dragonkind was labeled an enemy to all, these lessers became nothing more than dangerous pests and objects of ridicule. See what became of the proud dragons and their "godly" fluid! Spitting lizards that feed on rats and rubbish!
The Lesser Wyverns are a species of these lessers that retains a mere whisper of the mighty wings that once graced their kind. Yet their days soaring through the heavens are long over, as they are merely flaps of colored membrane, used more for display and temperature control. They are fond of perching on cliffs and roofs, finding high up edges to spread their wings, bask and search for prey. When they find food or a foe, their gullets expand with the remains of their Eitr, so that they may spew Primal Flame upon all. But this too is a mere echo, as their fire comes in gobs and spraying spits, a far cry from the inferno their kind once belched upon the lands. They are just nasty predators, burning people and property, eating what meat they can and being cut down by slayers like rabid animals
Though fallen from grace and doomed to the life of a simple beast, one must admit that they are still heirs of dragonkind. The extremities of their limbs shed their crude scales over time, revealing the bronze plates of their ancestors. Slowly, they reveal their birthright, but sadly this will never come to full fruition. This process will be aborted long before it can finish, a transformation doomed to stillbirth. These few inches of bronze is all they will ever attain. Yet, no matter how much time passes, they remain free from the tarnished signs of the curse, which has spelt the end to their ancestors. Has this path truly led to the shedding of this malignant blight, but at the cost of the mind and spirit? One must wonder if such a deal is worth it, but alas, not many dragons remain to truly ponder it...
It's now Smaugust, so time to dump as many dragons as I can before I run out of time! HURRY!
