Hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum, Sphingidae).
Finally, after 3 summers of searching, I have my first hummingbird hawk-moth photos!
It was in the garden of my neighbours at the back.
The hawk-moth hovers like a hummingbird in front of or above the flower to drink. It moves a bit like a jerky zigzagging hummingbird in flight.
Next time I will have to choose an even faster shutter speed.
I thought I had set it faster, but it was 'only' at 1/1000s. To stop such fast wings you will need 1/2000s. at most.
Unfortunately I couldn't get any closer than this, but at least I got some pictures of one!
