Transfer Station Designs — Description

Due to the physics of warp drives, specifically the existence of a proximity limit that determines how close to a gravity well a drive can be activated, all civilizations make use of transfer stations located just outside a star's proximity limit for transfer of cargo and passengers from FTL-capable ships to in-system shuttles. While transfer stations come in different shapes and sizes, the most common design, used by all civilizations in some variation, is a docking-ring surrounding a central section, which houses the station's reactor, life-support, and station-keeping drives. This is a relatively low-cost arrangement that can utilize spin-gravity to reduce the power needed to maintain standard gravity using artificial gravity generators.
