After all the excitement of the Thoroughbred filly making her first hoofsteps on Willowglen's training track at the beginning of the year, something rather unexpected had happened. Nearly a year later the filly had still not stepped foot on a real racetrack. There was no question of her physique, or her speed when she chose to give it. The bay filly simply wasn't ready - her moods too unpredictable. Some mornings she was all business, while others she chose to zigzag all over the track and buck and kick and fuss.

Despite this, the track staff still saw promise in her stride. Her running style reflected her aggressive personality - almost attacking the earth as though it would move beneath her hooves. It almost reminded Pip of a cheetah, the way she could coil her long body to spring into the next bounding step.

Finally she had sorted out her long legs too - coordinating them initially had been a nightmare. As the later months of the year rolled in, they made the decision to set her debut over in America. This was no ordinary maiden race, Sera had secured a wildcard position in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies, so she would make her first public performance in the highest of company. There was no doubt in her trainer's mind that she had the talent, the only question was of her maturity.
