Description
For a moment she was falling. Hurtling towards an infinite blackness.The darkness felt strangely comforting, beckoning to her from a distance. She couldn't hold out much longer. She was tired... so, so tired.
But just as she was about to surrender herself completely, Rook felt the last thing she would have ever expected: air. Air that swirled throughout every inch of her broken body, filling her lungs. Snap out of it, her mind screamed. Fight back while you still can!
But her body wouldn't respond. Rook was only vaguely aware of her head, stilting motionless to the side, her arms still pinned in Bruiser's crushing embrace, her legs dangling several feet off the asphalt. Suddenly the world shifted -- her left arm started to rise high above her head, held up by one of Bruiser's massive arms. She was being held up like some sort of prize. Her head lulled against her shoulder, her entire body swaying uselessly above the ground.
"Uuuuunnnngggg." It was all she could muster as Bruiser's laugh echoed through her eardrums.
"Where's all that smart talk now, girlie?" Bruiser asked cruelly.
In her peripheral vision, Rook noticed a few of the others had regained their wits, surrounding her in a circle.
"Enjoy your asskicking, bitch?" one taunted. "Doesn't feel so good when you're on the other end, huh?"
"What the hell should we do with her?"
"I say we do her right here in the street," another voice said. "Teach this bitch a lesson."
"Whadda say, girlie?" Bruiser whispered. "You ready to show us a good time?"
"No," a third voice said. "You morons aren't gonna do anything to her, not until we take her to the Boss. He'll decide what to do with her."
"But--"
"Now move your fucking asses."
"This ain't over, girlie," Bruiser muttered.
"Nnn...nnnghhh…" Rook groaned.
She tried to lift her head, to look her opponent straight in the eye when suddenly, a bag was thrown over her head and everything went black.
