Alright, so I went through the trouble to create this nice, bit (really really really big) tutorial on basically how I've been doing some of my recent Villain Month pieces using those custom brushes people have been asking about. It took a few hours to put this together, so I hope it helps you out! If it does, please let me see your results!

In photoshop CS3 you create a new group by pressing ctrl+g!
It took me a day to find out how to make a clipping mask 
could you plz include it in your tut for the other unhappy CS 3 owners?)

Hm, strange that they would change it like that. Still, if you find yourself making clipping masks more often than creating a new group, you could always go modify the keystroke in options, I think.

The great thing about PS is that there are a million different ways to do one thing. I personally like clipping masks, but there are other ways to get the same results.

And there was something else too, let me just go up and check again... Oh yes! The point about colorizing the inks! Every other way I've been shown has been complex and unintuitive.
Man, one of these days I'm going to put together a tutorial of all these obvious little PS tips that people like me miss...

A lot of those obvious little PS tips were born out of necessity and playing around, actually. The best way to learn is to simply do, you know?

Moving the layers is fantastic...until you accidentally move one and you're too tired to realize it for a few seconds. ;D
The great thing is, though, if you take a little time and explore in Photoshop, you'll learn new stuff all of the time. It's a never-ending learning experience.

You know, you can also lock the layer transparency and avoid all of that messy clipping mask business. It's the checkered box in the locking list in the layers window (where everyone is sleeping).

Well, yeah, but I like my layered mess. ;D
I find that having everything on its own respective layer (down to every last color of shading) makes for greater editability later on in the process. in case it's needed. Let's say I wanted to change the color of the first layer of shading in the face. If that's on the same layer as every other color of shading, then I also have to unintentionally modify those colors, too. There are ways around that, of course, but those ways tend to look cheap and messy.
But anyway, as I said in the tutorial, it's not the "right" way or the only way to do these things. Your way is a good suggestion, too!

Nice tutorial. I think there are too many overly-complicated tutorials out there and this one seems to map things out in an easy way.
Too bad I can't try out the clipping mask thing because (as far as I can tell) PS Elements doesn't have it. It hardly has anything as a matter of fact.

Ah, you really should get a hold of a better version of Photoshop. Still, Elements is better than nothing, and the clipping mask thing is more of just a convenience, y'know?

Yeah, Elements is really bad. Nine out of ten times that I find a PS tutorial, I am unable to use it by the second step because it involves something I don't have or extracting original lineart on a clear layer, or uses a setting Elements HAS but won't let me use for some idiotic reason.

Did you get Elements with your tablet or elsewhere? If it came with your tablet, it should be full-featured (or as full-featured as Elements gets).

It came with the tablet so it has all the filters and everything, there are just certain missing tools, that or they call it something else and placed it in a different location.

See, it doesn't make sense to me: why would they call the tools and filters different things when the program is made by the same company? That's pretty unintuitive, if you ask me.

Yeah, that's my least favorite thing about Adobe programs (and I love Adobe, for the record). Just because you know one program doesn't mean you'll be able to do anything with that knowledge in another program.
"Elements" should be like a training program for Photoshop, but it's just not similar enough.

I'm not sure whether I want to damn you or thank you for making me want to do this now... so I'll just say this: great tutorial and it's really informative, which I'm glad for because the most I can do on Photoshop is use the history brush. xD;; Anywho~ as I said, great tutorial.
