101 WRR Lady Loving Dove practicing Regeneration Spell . (Practice image 1 of 2)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The morning after No Turning Back .
Numbly, Dove drug her tired hooves underneath herself. She had little choice but to keep painfully walking on. They hadn't stopped moving since the fire.
'The fire.'
Dove couldn't stop herself from thinking about it. The horrible sounds. The horrible smell. It made her sick to her stomach. Her heart felt like it had been shredded to pieces. She never imagined something like this would happen to her. At first, she thought she was lucky...to have been one of the horses that was in a field. But the crushing guilt overruled any sense of happiness. She couldn't cry any more. She feared Daemos would yell at her again if she did.
Dove cringed at the thought of the stallion in front of her. He had acted so instinctively back at the barn when it went up in flames. He practically ran her over to get out of harm's way. He was a true survivor. But he was cold and brutish.
~flashback~
Dove had caught up to him after the roof fell in and they kept running for miles it seemed. They kept getting deeper and deeper into wilderness. Dove had no idea where they had gone. She could hardly make out the scenery as they bolted past. She could hardly see Daemos weave in the trees and suddenly drop down.
She thought maybe he had fallen. She tried to stop but it was too late as she went hurdling down a steep bank. Dove fell into Daemos and they were a tangle of legs and swear words. They landed in a very shallow creek bed.
Daemos shook the water from his ears and snared, "You stupid idiot! Are you completely useless!?"
Dove felt terrible for falling on top of him but she didn't feel like it was completely her fault! He gave no warning of the cliff, "I didn't know!"
Daemos kicked her off of him and stumbled to his legs, "Is that your excuse for everything!?" He was very angry.
Dove pinned her ears. It was an accident. Why was he being so terrible. She opened her mouth to protest, "I-" She noticed a stream of red dribble down his leg. He was cut pretty badly. She looked at the sharp rocks in the creek. He must have cushioned the fall and took the blow. "You're hurt." She got to her feet.
Daemos glanced at his shredded flank and spat, "Imagine that. And who's fault do you suppose that was?" He snorted and began to walk off. He muttered a series of harmful words and hexes under his breath.
Dove was shocked at how rude the stallion was. She grit her teeth, 'Serves you right!' But she looked closer at his silhouette. He had a slight limp now. He was trying very hard to hide it. It must have been more than a scrape.
It made Dove more mad at him. She trotted over to his side, "At least let me patch you up."
Daemos grunted in an annoyed manner, "With what? Sticks and leaves? Don't touch me. I don't need you fucking me up even more."
Dove couldn't believe this guy! He was impossible to deal with! "At least take a rest! I can see it hurts more than you're letting on."
Daemos shoved past her, almost shoving her into a tree, "I don't want your advise. I don't want your help. How about you run off somewhere and leave me alone, you leech."
Dove watched him walk off a few strides. She could just leave him... Nothing was forcing her to stay with him... But the silence of the wilderness was unsettling to her. Every instinct told her to stay in a herd. She couldn't rough it out here on her own. She had never been outside of a paddock before! She felt very small and defenseless. She caught back up to him but tailed behind. His limp was getting worse.
'Who's the idiot now? You're going to end up hurting yourself more this way if you just keep trying to ignore it...'
Dove thought about remedies that her father and mother had talked about when she was a foal. They always talked about magic like it was real. She thought they were just trying to trick her when she was young. But now she wondered about it. They said the best medicine for any wound was a Beaurever's breath...
She looked at Daemos's legs. It was torn to shreds. She could see the muscles, now exposed, pushing dark red blood out of the wound. She bit her bottom lip. It looked pretty bad. She hesitated for a moment and went for it. She didn't know what she had to do in order to heal it. She had never used magic or had even thought about magic until now. Her heart fluttered. She feared making a fool of herself. But she didn't want to be alone in the wilderness! She feared if something attacked them, they would both be dead and it was her fault!
She begged her breath to be the remedy for his wound.
Daemos felt a weird sensation behind him. He paused for a moment to see Dove near his wound. She looked like she was concentrating. She looked afraid. She looked like how he did as a foal when he had first learned to control fire. (A Taste of Power )
His wounds began to close. The blood stopped dripping. All that was left were bare patches of flesh. The pain was gone.
Dove opened her eyes and smiled. She looked at Daemos, "I healed you! It worked!" She felt such relief and joy- and then she was on the ground.
Daemos was on top of her. He had whirled around so quickly and knocked her from her feet, she didn't quite know how. She was paralyzed in fear as the monstrous stallion roared in her face, "Don't you EVER do that again! Did you not hear me!? I said I DON'T want your damn help! You think you're something special!? You think I owe you something!? You mean NOTHING to me!" He let that last sentence echo through the trees before walking away from her.
Dove lay there in shock. Her body was in a full tremble. She had never been so verbally hurt in her life. She had never felt this empty. She thought she was helping. She only wanted to help.
~present~
Something had cracked inside of Dove. She didn't feel happiness. She didn't feel upset or hurt. She felt empty and hollow. Something about the toxic words Daemos had spat into her face changed her. With her head dropped, hooves numb from the miles they had trekked thus far, Dove followed Daemos. She truly felt like nothing. But at least that meant Daemos was something...
Daemos glanced back at the mare following him. He thought he had scared her off for good when he came undone on her. He couldn't figure out why she still followed him like a lost puppy. It made him angry. She had no thought of her own. He saw the dried blood and scars on his flank...
He rolled his eyes and carried onward. She wasn't anything special...
I didn't mean to write a book! Honest! xD
Continuing Daemos x Dove story <3 Yes, he's a terrible stallion. Poor Dove got stuck with the worst one I had. D': Felt nice to just get some art done though! I had the plot but I didn't really have an idea of what I wanted to do image-wise and definitely not background-wise! But I like the foggy look! Kind of symbolizes both of their feelings and thoughts - foggy.
