DP:R contest entry — Description
This is my entry for DP:R contest. He's in the past category obviously. Anyway, on to Roman Danny's background;

Danny was once a brave warrior in the Roman army. One day he was killed by an assasin sent by one of the Roman Empire's many enemies. Like all souls, he was sent to the Underworld where he would pass judgement. Danny was fairly tricky and managed to persuade Pluto (also known as Hades) to send him back to Earth. Danny wasn't allowed to come back in a human form, so he became a spirit. Pluto gave him an enchanted spear that can burst into flames as well as shoot them, a shield and armor that couldn't be pierced by any Earthly weapons, and a powerful sword imbued with ghostly magic.

Pluto allowed Danny to live as long as he served the God of Death. Danny complied, becoming immortal. He no longer could be in the Roman army because he wasn't allowed to go back to Rome. Instead he struck Rome's enemies at nighttime, appearing as the Roman Phantom. In this way, Danny was able to help Rome score many wins without revealing himself.

Danny was often lonely and wished that his girlfriend from when he was alive was with him. As often as he could, he would spy on Sam. He has the power to enter dreams and often does so. It's the only truely happy times he spends as a minion of Pluto.
