The Burst Brigade 2018 — Description

here they are.......... the squid kidz.

I made the original just under a couple years ago, with it being the first time I had full body references of all of my characters (at the time). honestly I'm so pumped at how far these four have come. their first designs were cute, sure, but now I've got such a better grasp on their personalities due to excessive roleplays and learning how to write characters. it's been a nice process.

here are interesting design pointers based on the brigade...

alba: her design has changed a smidge since her original upload. besides her mask and the side bangs, she looks the exact same. like, seriously. other than the fact that I became better at drawing her, this is the same alba since september 2015.

jon: he started with a really bad design back in the day. you can see it a couple times in this sketch dump , although his original actually had long tentacles! they were tied in the same place and hung down to around his waist. he also used to have the custom jet squelcher, but when I started making "plans" for him, the splattershot seemed like a better fit. his first upload was this picture. it was really deep into a roleplay. it's so weird now that I look back on it.

rydel: they ended up looking kinda sorta similar to their original design . definitely traded the idea that squid kids are all 5ft tall and skinny in so I could make a swol giant. rydel's canon height is "taller than you." I've kept the general concept the same with their design- wild tentacles, shades, black clothing, sporty look. their shades and shoes stayed the same, although with the release of splatoon 2, I knew I wanted to change their shirt to an actual tank top. nintendo never released a black tank top so I had to invert the white king tank like some BARBARIAN.

camille: I'm so glad she's come as far as she has since my first concept of her . needless to say, it wasn't great. that combo might have worked for someone who didn't have their personality figured out. luckily that striped shirt was released in splatoon 2, and I could quickly switch camille to a more sherbet color scheme. also you can't see it, but now a squid clip barrette is holding her tentalces up. it used to be that they were loosely tied in the back.
