Power Rangers Rail Riders Episode One: All Aboard
Aw, hell yeah! The theme song to this one kicks ass. It sounds like it could've been an actual theme in the official show. It gives me vibes of Jungle Fury's or the the RPM demos.
The show begins with our team, beaten and bloodied after a battle.
They regroup and notice a member missing. They find him over a ridge.
He's pointing a gun at something below the frame, while smiling like a maniac. "I finally found the one I've been looking for!" He laughs.
We cut to a black screen with the text, "6 Months Earlier".
We cut to narration over stock footage from Toqger. The narration tells of the power of imagination, and warns that something out there wants to snuff it out.
Things suddenly freeze, as people are abducted by a mysterious organization the narrator calls the Shadow Line.
A few people remain unfrozen, and find themselves attacked by black suited weirdos.
They fight off the weirdos, and escape.
The weirdos find a sleeping guy and attack him too. Unfortunately for the weirdos, this guy is able to fight them off single handedly.
The others meanwhile get attacked again, but this time at the FART FART FART wall. There's a wall with "FART" graffitied over and over on it.
Maybe the wall was erected in honor of Victor and Monty's destruction of the Warrior Dome.
Another wall has "CUCK GOD" on it. I guess this production didn't have much choice of location.
All five of our heroes meet.
Suddenly, we're at a fence with a train behind it. Some weird dude dressed like Big One pops up and introduces himself. He's the conductor, and the train is the Rainbow Line. He goes on to explain that they've been recruited to battle the Shadow Line.
We then see the whole city ON FUCKING FIRE.
Oh jeez, it didn't seem that bad before. I hope the FART FART FART wall is okay.
The Conductor tells them that the Shadow Line has been turning towns into Shadow Bases, but they can defeat them with the power of IMAGINATION.
Onboard, the Conductor gives the team their Morphers.
A Shadow Line train zips by. The Rainbow Line rams it, knocking out a monster.
The team confronts the monster and Morphs for the first time!
And then the YouTube version cuts to black because Toei blocked the video.
We jump to right after the Rangers defeat the monster.
We meet some of our bad guys. I'll just call them by their Toqger names until I learn their Rail Riders names.
Baron Nero has a German accent. He appears to be the brains.
General Schwartz has a shockingly light and casual voice. That's quite the change from his deep, imposing voice in Toqger.
Gritta sounds enthusiastic and happy. At least, I think it was her, it could be Madam Noire next to her.
The Rangers meanwhile celebrate, until the Conductor informs them they have over a thousand more Shadow Line stations to defeat.
The end credits roll, and we learn Baron Nero's name is now Baron Stein. Alright.
The end credits go on for a while, revealing this fan made episode had quite the impressive crew. Most people involved played double or triple duty, but still, this was apparently a large project.
This was so cool.
I don't think I've seen many other fan productions that so competently recreated the feel of a Sentai adaptation.
They use all the tricks Saban perfected back in the day.
There's rough edges here and there, but in my opinion, that just makes this all the more fascinating.
It's too bad there never was an official adaptation of Toqger, it'd be interesting to compare this.
The Rangers are heavily inspired from their Toqger counterparts, which given the low budget, was a smart move. It allows the Rangers to seamlessly transition from civilian to Ranger.
The plot as well is very closely stuck to. This really does feel like the type of season Jonathan Tzachor would've helmed.
There's more blood than typically seen in PR, or even most Sentais.
Maybe that was so kids or casual fans that stumble across this know it's not official.
My favorite actor is the Conductor. He really sells every line, even silly stuff like when he has to say "IMAGINATION!".
I'm definitely looking forward to checking out more episodes of this.
