Lightspeed Teamwork — Description
The second episode starts off with the villains. I'd like to use this opportunity to say I freaking love Diabolico's voice. He has a sinister and stoic command to it.
His General, Loki explains that demons can't go in water, so they can't attack the Aquabase directly. We are also introduced to my favorite of the Lightspeed villains, Jinxer. He also has quite the voice, jittery and hyper, but calm and creepy.
At the Aquabase, we see an example of Joel's flirtatious attitude, and our first glimpse of Miss Fairweather.
Joel is lovestruck with her, while she doesn't appear to think much of him. They have a cute little relationship throughout the series. He doesn't realize who she is. He then goes off to get flowers for her, missing a tour of the base and an introduction to some new equipment.
The other Rangers meet Miss Fairweather, the scientist who developed the tech for the Lightspeed Rescue team. She shows them the Rail Rescues, the Zord Carriers for the season. "Trains?" Scoffs Kelsey. Hmmm, I wonder if she worked at Saban or Bandai a few years ago.
A monster attacks, it looks like Ecliptor if he had skin like Maligore and Dark Spectre.
One of the unique aspects of this season is a focus not only on defeating the monster, but rescuing people endangered by the monster's actions. Joel gets a focus here, learning to follow orders from his superiors. He's no longer a solo performer, he can't showboat, every second counts. Miss Fairweather loses her patience and yells at him once, though it's presented humorously.
The Rangers form the Megazord and take out the monster. I love the extending ladder arms, they're such a cool trait.
Joel sheepishly learns that Miss Fairweather is his superior, after complaining about an "egghead computer geek" telling him how to fly.

This is a great second episode, continuing and expanding the story, and even being a focus episode for someone other than the red Ranger! That will become increasingly rare as the series continues. I wish we could see more of the main villains, they feel so separate from everything at this point. We don't see them interact with the two main monsters of the day we've had so far, they don't interact with the Rangers, we don't even see them leave their base.
When Miss Fairweather shows the rangers their equipment, there's some obvious similarity to equipment from previous seasons. The Zords, the suits, are the characters aware of the past seasons? When is this taking place? After or at the same time as Lost Galaxy? Do the Demons have any connection to the monsters of the past? Most of these questions will remain unanswered, due to the attempt at separating this season from the previous. However, one thing that oddly remained consistent was Zordon's wave, the sacrifice of Zordon that killed or purified nearly all the villains.

Scorpius and Trakeena were most likely outside it's range, Captain Mutiny was in another dimension, and the Demons were in hibernation. Future seasons also seem to have gone out of their way to work within Zordon's wave, Time Force's villains would come from the future, Wild Force's Orgs would be awakened from hibernation like this season's demons, the Machine Empire Generals were most likely the last few of their kind, Lothor and his crew were out in Deep Space probably outside Zordon's range, Anton Mercer was a threat after the wave, Gruum was in Deep Space, and didn't come to Earth until after Zordon's wave, the monsters of Mystic Force were in another dimension, Flurious and Motor were probably off in deep space, or at least inactive, Thrax was trapped in his own Space Dumpster, Dai Shi was locked in a box and inactive, Venjix was in another dimension's future, the Nighlok were in their own dimension, the vast empire of monsters in Megaforce were probably a recently formed threat, Sledge was either in deep space or in a time travel situation that blocked him from Zordon's wave, the Galaxy Warriors were probably considered petty criminals even if they were in range, so they probably wouldn't have been affected. There's my little nerd list for this week. Just an observation about the one thing that weirdly was kept consistent.
