Stepping over the well-worn welcome mat on the threshold of this quaint home, you find yourself in a spacious, sunlit room. The faint scent of lavender and roses drifts across the space, and the lilac blooms of a lavender bush can be seen poking in through the white shutters which are open to let in a light breeze. The thorny vines of a light pink climbing rose crawl along the upper walls of this room, the dark green leaves contrasting well with the pale blooms. A hat rack of a rich, dark redwood stands by the wall beside the door, and a small array of colourful coats, hats, and shoes lie on and off of its hooks. On both sides of the door and along the western wall are shuttered windows which let in fresh air and sunlight as well as keep out heavy rain and the night’s chill. In one corner a small loveseat and mismatched end table nestle cosily, a perfect spot to read alone, and along the eastern wall a group of comfortable armchairs are arranged in a semi-circle around an old brick fireplace. This room radiates a feeling of comfort and seems to evoke feelings of home.
