The Funeral is about to begin... — Description
"You play a good game, BOY, but the game is finished. Now you die."

Well I still have 2 movies to go for this series, and I am enjoying it so far.
I've only started with these movies about 2 years ago and much as I enjoy what I've seen, the very first movie remains my absolute favorite of the bunch. Why ? Well, not because of the Tall Man (as awesome Angus Scrimm is anytime he is on-screen), not because of Reggie (who simply kicks ass anyway), not even because of the deliciously horrific atmosphere (all 3 I've seen have that !)... it's due to the hidden point of the movie that took me by surprise.
You may have heard of it, I can confirm it, the 1st movie is about grief. And that's what sets it apart from the (still pretty good mind you) sequels. As for the mindfuck quality of the series and how we're always left guessing what's real or not, THAT is one of its greatest qualities ! Existential dread works fantastically in horror as long as you relate to/emphathize with the protagonists... and Phantasm does exactly that. It.Is.THAT.Simple.
And there's this perfect theme www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3ieQx…

In case you ask, yes , he's been shot in the head, yes, he bleeds yellow and NO, you cannot escape the Tall Man if he ever targets you...
