You have no idea of the debt literature owes this guy. Yet he was there for less than 50 pages...Related content

Arguably the most dangerous vampire in the classic literature, since he absolutely gets away with it and vanishes, leaving the details of his history and potential vulnerabilities a mystery for the ages.
Or perhaps poor Aubrey and his sister were related to ‘Lucky Jack’ Aubrey and Lord Ruthven wound up on the wrong end of ‘wooden ships and iron men’.

Even though Dracula reigns, Ruthven needs more love to spread his terror.

This misogynistic serial killing scumbag is the complete antithesis to everything I find Carmilla being comparably sympathetic that is as if Ruthven represents everything Carmilla fights so hard not to become but unfortunately the outside world sees her as anyways.

Man, I'd love to see a new wave of horror movies starring all the classic beasties, but seeing how most modern horror flicks are nowadays I'd be more than skeptical.

I'c say the 90's wave of Hammer revivals did the job (Coppola's Dracula , Nicholson as the Wolfman, Branagh's Frankenstein...), so I'd say the well is dry... but Lord Ruthven's case is interesting because making him anything OTHER than a vile predator would kinda detract from the point... Now added facets can work IF they do not forget why he was written...

A movie based on The Vampyre will come out in 2019, so maybe they will do the original English vampire justice.

Hope they won't try making him sympathetic.

You did it. You drew one of the most obscure literary characters I haven't heard of until now (I had to use Google to research this character). XD
Have you considered doing a Literary Portrait based on George Langelaan's short story, "The Fly?" I would like to see that.

The enigmatic corruptor. Honestly, many of the Draculas in movies and TV are modeled more after him than Stoker's Count.

In fairness Dracula is a much more horrifying name.
