Now, the original Batman by Finger and Kane was pretty much an anti-heroic avenger at best, a serial killer of criminals at worst. Looking at him now, Original Bruce Wayne is a cape version of this guy 33.media.tumblr.com/dae002bcb6… , except that he would not have a hand fetish but a tendency to off crooks (and I honestly don't see THIS Batman having a Rogues gallery).
O'Neil's Batman on the other hand , while he does look imposing and frightening, is a sweetheart... exactly like a bat.

And this is the Batman that will endure 3 decades comics-wise,(and longer if you count other medias. God Bless the Arkham Games for maintaining THIS Batman active and heroic !), the Batman that doesn't kill...and that a lot of people seem to take for granted.

And before we start with the stories, I'll tell you a fun trivia ; Ra's Al Ghul has a different meaning in Tunisian. Generally speaking, Ghul means ogre. Yup, as in "big brutes that love to eat children in fairy tales." rather than demon. It's less fearsome when one's name is a reference to this vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/t… , ain't it ? Now in argotic Tunsian, Ghul can be translated roughly as "you the man !/you rule dude !". That is immediately more radical !
And Talia means summit. As in highest part of a mount. You're welcome.

One of Bruce's earliest romps in the old days. So logically he goes after a funky mask and a killer.

Batman fails to save the life of a young girl held for ransom. Yes, Batman is faillible because he's just a dude first and a billionaire second. Due to this tragedy, our beloved chiropterian cosplayer decides to go against Mr Mackey's advice and try a new experimental steroid-drug called Venom, first name : Weare. Well you can guess how well this goes....

* JOKER'S 5 WAYS OF REVENGE
Most of you have heard about this particular story. And YES, this is where the TRULY great Joker is born.... for 3 decades too (he DOES have something in common with Brucie after all.).
O'Neil mixed both the serious criminal side of the Kane/Finger Joker AND the theatrical/funny side of the Romero one and a brilliant villain was born. A villain that is there for the best reason of all : pure fucking EGO.

* SILENT NIGHTS DEADLY NIGHT
Batman saves the day (well the night...) by riding a sleigh. YES it happened !

* IMAGES
A re-telling of the first encounter with the Joker. Or rather, THE best 1st encounter that was put on paper due to how unorthodox it was. Plus it actually shows why 70-90's Joker works perfectly in Gotham as a criminal genius and can convince potential partners. A pity the late 00's don't fucking get his point.At all...

* TALES OF THE DEMON
And thus Batman along a martial artist, a ski champion and a scientist will discover that Ra's has a cheat co...errr... unlocked the secret of eternal life !

* HALF AN EVIL
Good Ol' Harvey Dent makes a come back after a loooong hiatus. His plan ? Pillaging an old ship !...errr...Eh, that'll do fine. Points for creativity Harv !

* GORDON OF GOTHAM
A man, His Badge, His Mustache, His Gun against corruption.

* WHO KNOWS WHAT EVIL/ NIGHT OF THE SHADOW
Batsy meets the Shadow.

* DAUGHTER OF THE DEMON
The first time Bruce meets ShrekHea... err...Ra's Al Ghul. And it is odd to say the least, Ra's is not antagonizing or at odds with him when they meet. OR IS HE ?
Also, Bats hams it up like mad in this story.

* DEATH OF INNOCENTS
... I have nothing fun to say here, this story is depressing...

* KNIGHTSEND: CLIMAX
Knightfall, Last Round. Bruce Wayne VS Jean Paul Valley. FIGHT !
