"Nghhhhh!!!!"The Rabbit launched herself through the air, hitting Alchemica with all her weight, driving the Heroine forward and straight into Mitchell's left hook.
The blow caught the surprised sorceress flush on the jaw and Alchemica's world faded to black as her eyes crossed and rolled back up into her head.Β
Mitchell's blow had done the trick, Alchemica was out cold!

Time for some Quack talk methinks
There is a different way to look at it.
Lets put aside Lei's capture - that was pure SHiP trope stuff, and admire the Rabbit's simple yet effective plan
Insert herself into the scenario as just another helpless victim
Alchemica doesn't have the narrator's viewpoint, she is angry her friend is in danger and she is focused on the source of that danger Β - that's plausible enough
Now we could get into why she doesn't spell cast this or spell cast that - But at some point TV logic has to take over.
Yes she could lay down layers of mystical protection every time - but then we wouldn't have a story
Β I don't really like employing tropes and I certainly don't like dumb heroines - but nor do I like infallible ones.
Sometimes you choose the least disruptive path to your goal - which is Jessica's capture for this part of the story or we don't have a story
TLDR? - That is one smart Rabbit

This is how I looked at it...
From Jessica's/Alchemica's point of view:
I see my teammate tightly bound and gagged, and an unknown woman/victim with just her wrists tied in front of her. My gut is telling me that there's two of them working in concert. If it's two of them, like I believe, why isn't the other girl bound and gagged like Lei? Seems suspicious.
I get the Rabbit had to be tied up in a certain way that it had to be convincing enough to Jessica/Alchemica that she was captured, but easy enough so she could easily escape to surprise attack Jessica/Alchemica. But while she was working to get the ropes off her wrists, wouldn't she be making enough noise to draw Jessica's attention? Or wouldn't the creak from the van when she steps out to ambush Jessica be enough to draw attention?

Your "gut" is called meta gaming - something I used to see a lot when GM'ing. People don't even realise they do it most to the times
Essentially you have information Jessica isn't privy to and you are using that as part of your analysis
If the Rabbit had played the victim to lure MM in and never revealed herself till now I am willing to bet $50 this conversation would have gone differently Β
As to the noises the Rabbit makes. Part of the issue here is that the story is in still frames and time passes between frames. But the ropes slip off, they are for show only.
As to noises and timings - again you are viewing it from behind the safety of your monitor.
If you have ever taken good self defence classes you will find that one thing the instructor's try to instill in students is not to let their focus narrow. You get in a thing and the adrenaline hits...your field of focus narrows to the immediate threat normally and in a self defence situation that can be bad.
What Jessica sees / thinks is this
One blonde civilian in the van, tied and out cold. Β Miss Martial over some guys shoulder heavily restrained. No one else in sight and she has the drop on Mitchell
The difference in rope density is explainable because Miss Martial is one of the most dangerous fighters in the world. If you do somehow manage to incapacitate her, you want to make sure she doesn't get a second chance. A civilian is far less of a worry -especially to Β a man who can defeat MM
So Jessica's threat assessment has Mitchell as the one to focus on, and she has a huge adrenaline buzz going on , which narrows her awareness as it would for you and me...perhaps not as much...but Mitchell is the viper in the room and the other two are victims of snakebites so she focuses on him.
He doesn't have a weapon...is he some unknown supreme fighter? Does he have powers? Can she react faster than him? All of these things are going through her head. If...if the Rabbit made any noise it would likely go un-noticed or be ignored...at the very least Jessica's reactions to it would be slower because she would have to drag her focus away from the visible danger
It all happens very quickly after that. The Rabbit hits Jessica less than a second after jumping and Mitchell is prepped and lands a good shot to Jessica's jaw and she is out cold
Like I said Lei's capture is a dumb heroine trope...I wanted Jessica's to not follow suit but there are multiple limitations
This is just a fun series -number one - so I didn't want to over egg it
Sugar and Dee give me their time and art for free - I didn't want to impose. In other scenarios -with other artists -costs would be the limiting factor
Three - TV logic has to come in at some point to "make the story happen" Your point about the noise was a good one - but it becomes even more so if you apply it say...to a Kryptonian.
Near light speed, super senses, super strength, never mind SHiP - how does anyone get the drop on them in the comics?
The only thing I can do is try to create a situation where it is possible, plausible, Jessica would get captured if she didn't do everything right
Irl she would walk in...magic the fuck out of everything and not let anyone within 5 meters until she knew exactly what the fuck was going on - but that doesn't always make for the best stories
Anyway that is just how I process things and plan to do things in the reboot-enjoyed the chat Β Β
