Okay, I KNOW I'm gonna get shit for this, but I don't care.Okay. This is a touchy subject with me and also a very valid topic.
Cosplay has nothing to do with skin colour.
Cosplay is about dressing up and having fun as a particular cartoon/videogame/anime/whatever character.
Why should someone not be able to cosplay as a character because of their skin colour? Why should people look at someone weird because they don't match the same skin colour as the character?
Sorry, but 90% of fucking characters are made with pale skin. Whoopsie daisy, we're not all fucking pale.
I get tired of hearing that someone shouldn't be able to cosplay whatever character because they're black or spanish, or whatever race that isn't "white".
Well, you know what? FUCK YOU! Cos if THAT's the fucking case, white people shouldn't be able to cosplay as most of the anime characters out there. Wanna know why? because they're Asian.
So I don't wanna hear that shit. Fuck that.
I'm a Puerto Rican/Filipino mix and I am Tan. BUT I WILL STILL COSPLAY AS MARLUXIA, ZEXION, WHOMEVER THE FUCK I WANT TO AND CAN'T NO ONE STOP ME.

Besides there are characters that don;t even have normal skin color. Some are green, blue,etc. I guess NOBODY can cosply them since no one is the "correct" skin color

Amen. I feel like the only thing that counts is doing the character's outfit the best you can and working hard. I'm cosplaying as Ciel Phantomhive from Kuuroshitsuji and he is pale as ever. I'm dark skinned and I don't care I love his character so I'll cosplay as him!

Pluse saying that only Asians can cosplay as anime/manga/videogame chractersdoesn't make since. You know why? because MOST of those chracters don't even look Asian at all! They are alsmot all whuite and most of their fans aren't white at all!
Plus not al chracters have nomal skin color. Some are purple,blue green,etc. So I guess NO ONE can cosplay those and they "can't" use paint since it would stuill be "wrong".

that's right! i'm a filipino too... and filipinos get called FAILIPINOS.. and i hate it because no one is perfect and they judge us because they have the skin tone that usual characters have.. they're not the Almighty God.. and besides.. even God won't do that... i'm tan so i know... such racist people think they're perfect... thay should try walking on water if they think they're so perfect..

I think when people say stuff like that, they don't mean you "shouldn't" do it. They probably mean something like it doesn't look as "professional" with enough makeup, even white people can look asian, it doesn't matter.
It's all about professionalism and how much effort you put into a costume. if you really care enough, invest money in SHIT-LOADS of white makeup and alter yourself enough. Or if you REALLY REALLY care, make the outfit actually look convincing without looking like some trash-hick. You see these pictures of darker skinned people doing half-ass costumes with OOC poses and stupid grins. While they may be having fun, it gives cosplay a bad name for those trying to convince people what we do is...realistic and not just "Dressing up and playing around"
So, in the end, who cares about your skin color? It just seems that people don't take it seriously and a majority of those people seem to be (I'm NOT RACIST, just look around) black or spanish or whatever. Take it seriously and actually TRY, and people will see your efforts and commend you instead of flinching and running away.

Awsome! yeah i dont like how mean some people are with cosplay...even to the point of who can hang out in there group and not..(Sadly i'm in a group like that) But i make sure to include every one!(Even if it means i get kicked out) Yeah home-made cosplay dont look as nice some times but hey! We put alot of work into them!!!

lumao. u mad? take a chill pill, it's because there are a lot of people who take cosplaying very seriously. Yes of course there is an aspect of having fun but there's also another aspect on how hard you work to look like the character. You realize anime girls eyes are so big because they're mimicking the white people right? So actually, your theory is wrong, because most anime girls are modeled to be white which is true but there are still options if you're of color. Fran for example I have seen some badass black chicks do fran and you wouldn't catch me dead trying to cosplay her. And I have seen PLENTY of hispanic/puertorican cosplayers who play white characters just fine. ACTUALLY a black girl did an asotounding Edea from FF8 (sounds off, but it's wicked. she's on cosplay.com). get a wig and use make up.
So IN TURN it is equally wrong of you to be bashing OUR SIDE of the cosplay spectrum. funny thing society is though.
And with recent anime, this is pretty much null and if you really want me to I can bust out a huge list of characters of color if you're having trouble finding some.

I never said anything about bashing your side of the colour spectrum, GypsyStar. I simply stated that people who believe that you have to be a certain skin colour to cosplay, even if it's just for fun, are being really unreasonable and unfair.
I don't care if my theory was wrong. I didn't state that so someone can try to prove me wrong because I could simply care less. My own beliefs are what they are and no one's gonna change that.
And I'm aware of anime with tanned skinned characters, thanks. I'll cosplay as a white character if I want to. I'm not gonna simply cosplay as someone who is tanned because I am such. So, thank you for wasting my time with such an annoying comment.

Tlly. But I personally would never cosplay somebody with blond hair 'cause of my skin color but that's a personal choice. I have a friend who wants to be Mello and i'm tlly for it and she's darker then I am.
