Description Okay, I KNOW I'm gonna get shit for this, but I don't care.

Okay. This is a touchy subject with me and also a very valid topic.

Cosplay has nothing to do with skin colour.

Cosplay is about dressing up and having fun as a particular cartoon/videogame/anime/whatever character.

Why should someone not be able to cosplay as a character because of their skin colour? Why should people look at someone weird because they don't match the same skin colour as the character?

Sorry, but 90% of fucking characters are made with pale skin. Whoopsie daisy, we're not all fucking pale.

I get tired of hearing that someone shouldn't be able to cosplay whatever character because they're black or spanish, or whatever race that isn't "white".

Well, you know what? FUCK YOU! Cos if THAT's the fucking case, white people shouldn't be able to cosplay as most of the anime characters out there. Wanna know why? because they're Asian.

So I don't wanna hear that shit. Fuck that.

I'm a Puerto Rican/Filipino mix and I am Tan. BUT I WILL STILL COSPLAY AS MARLUXIA, ZEXION, WHOMEVER THE FUCK I WANT TO AND CAN'T NO ONE STOP ME.

I agree so much! I think it applies for reverse too. I'm caucasian but mentioned once wanting to cosplay Sheva from Resident Evil, who is African. But a few people put me down about it and said some really hurtful things :/ I have seen some beautiful cosplayers that are not the same skin tone as the character they are! Like this amazing Tifa of FF7 I saw once; she was gorgeous *__* I will never forget her, she was so beautiful.

It's a way to have fun and enjoy yourself! So I don't think something that silly matters at all :) (Smile) you are completely right!

Yeah. Not so great if you're super pale either... cause I want to cosplay Marik or Theif king but I'm as whiter than the moon...
but cosplay really has no limits does it?

I'm planning for my first cosplays to be as Rip Van Winkle (Hellsing), Sakuya Izayoi? Cirno? and Patchouli Knowledge (Touhou) and I'm a hispanic (Peruvian born in America) and i'm brown, and to see that there's LOTS of support for the true meaning of cosplays SCREW RACISM!!! the importance of Cosplay IS being THAT character and KNOW that character, It will completely FAIL if that person does NOT know the character, or just does it for show-offs! I PRAISE THIS SO MUCH! THANK YOU FOR CONVINCING THE NEW COSPLAYERS (including me) TO JUST DO THEIR CHARACTER NO MATTER THE SKIN COLOR!

It's not racism. If this is racism then that would mean Disney would be sued for discrimination all over the place for not casting black Belles or white Tianas. It's accuracy. It's as simple as some people take it seriously, some do it for fun. Neither is wrong.

None of that is racist in the least, you should probably understand the actual definition of words before you use them. I don't know any one african who would be okay with seeing Tiana white. There would be an uproar in the african society if that were to happen. That's not racism. And as I said again (but you ignored due to your wanting to call me racist and a dick). Some people take it seriously, some do it for fun. NEITHER is wrong. And it's that simple.

When did "COS-PLAY" costume play, by definition, turn into anything about skin color?

You are claiming that people with darker colored skin can't cosplay characters with lighter colored skin. Essentially, you are dictating a person's actions because of a person's skin color.

Your exact words to someone: "And with recent anime, this is pretty much null and if you really want me to I can bust out a huge list of characters of color if you're having trouble finding some."

Translation: "Well, you go over there and cosplay your 5 black characters, while I and all my white friends sit here and cosplay our 21398122039023903890230 white characters. It's not racist, it's just "separate".

~

racΒ·ism
n.
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

I would like to point you to the latter definition, and now apply it to the point above. Do you need a definition for race and discrimination too, or can you make the connection? Unimpressed

~

"I don't know any one african who would be okay with seeing Tiana white."

First, pretty sure the term most normal people use is "African-American" seeing as Tiana is from New Orleans. Sweating a little... Secondly, there is a difference between a white Tiana and a black Belle. If you can't figure that out, then don't bother replying.

I looked on every single Disneyland character casting site and not one of them said anything about a person's skin color when applying for a character. Not once. There were height restrictions, and that's about it. So if the best person for the job was black, or Latina, or Middle Eastern, then Disney would have to cast that person as Belle or, legally, they could be sued for discrimination. Little kids would still recognize their beloved characters if Belle was darker-skinned.

However, I know I would be super happy and excited to see a darker skinned Belle or Ariel. :) (Smile)

PS. Don't whine if you can't take it when people call you for what they see. You intruded on a stamp of solidarity for people of color who have been shunned by the majority of other cosplayers just for having dark skin, and then you spouted all the discriminatory garbage which was why this stamp was made in the first place. So yes, you are a dick. Unimpressed

Also, blocking people who destroy your fail arguments shows how butthurt and fail you really are. Thumbs Up

I'm not going to read all of this. I never said any one race could or could not cosplay anything. All I said (Geez I seem to keep repeating myself) is Some cosplayers take it seriously (as in, just in case you weren't understanding, they go for complete accuracy), and some do it for fun (as in they cosplay what they want no matter the circumstances. NEITHER are wrong.

Yeah, I find it messed up. It irks me that I'd sooner get yelled at for cosplaying Rukia from Bleach than if one of my light-skinned friends cosplayed as Yoruichi (Bleach). The double-standard is stupid. Dx
I even had a friend tell me years ago that I couldn't be in his Ranma 1/2 cosplay group because of my skin tone. -_-
