Description
Okay, I KNOW I'm gonna get shit for this, but I don't care.Okay. This is a touchy subject with me and also a very valid topic.
Cosplay has nothing to do with skin colour.
Cosplay is about dressing up and having fun as a particular cartoon/videogame/anime/whatever character.
Why should someone not be able to cosplay as a character because of their skin colour? Why should people look at someone weird because they don't match the same skin colour as the character?
Sorry, but 90% of fucking characters are made with pale skin. Whoopsie daisy, we're not all fucking pale.
I get tired of hearing that someone shouldn't be able to cosplay whatever character because they're black or spanish, or whatever race that isn't "white".
Well, you know what? FUCK YOU! Cos if THAT's the fucking case, white people shouldn't be able to cosplay as most of the anime characters out there. Wanna know why? because they're Asian.
So I don't wanna hear that shit. Fuck that.
I'm a Puerto Rican/Filipino mix and I am Tan. BUT I WILL STILL COSPLAY AS MARLUXIA, ZEXION, WHOMEVER THE FUCK I WANT TO AND CAN'T NO ONE STOP ME.

*huff huff*
Feel free to use.

I saw a black girl dress up as Halloween Town Sora. Her costume was great, she was having fun - that's what matters, right?

I was Hakkai from Saiyuki back in 10th grade and no one looked at me weird. I was glad! I have reddish-brown skin.

i agree with you 100%. I heard people arguing about it, and i'm just thinking: uh... technically your both wrong... They're asian... but yeah. People just over complicate things... Stupid people.

I think it's great when people of another skin color dress up as a particular cosplay. Though it may not be a 100% accurate cosplay (few actually are), I can appreciate people just having fun. What boils me though, no matter who's skin color or body type, is slutty cosplays for the sake of sluttiness. I don't want to see that. I don't care if the person's 100 lbs or 400 lbs. Do not want.

Bro, I agree. Some people are just douches and like to start crap because they are too lame or bored or w/e to do something productive.

Exactly. I'm a light tan, too, and I don't care if a character is pale skinned. I'll cosplay whomever I want to because I can, it's fun, and not everyone has the same skin tone, kthx.

I think as long as one has a decent costume and is having fun and wearing something that fits their body type they can cosplay whoever the fuck they want

I completely agree. Though, I would like someone to come on this stamp and say otherwise. They would probably be shot down haha. I played raven off of teen titans one time for Halloween. Someone said that I shouldn't because I didn't have her personality. Which is all doom and gloom. So it goes beyond skin color. Which annoys me.

Agreed!
I'm Carribean but I still cosplay as non-black characters
I've cosplayed as Yukiko Amagi from Persona 4
and it's probably BECAUSE of my skin colour (and maybe my poor camera) why no-one likes it as much as 'other skinned' cosplayers.
But I'm just gonna continue cosplaying! It's for fun right?! Who cares about what they look like!!

Everyone's entitled to their opinion and "cosplay has nothing to do with skin color" is not a fact.
Some people take it very seriously, and some do it for fun.
Neither is wrong.

The point of cosplay is to dress up and LOOK like the character.
You might as well go ahead and make a stamp saying cosplay has nothing to do with weight either.
Cuz it has EVERYTHING to do with skin and weight.
Really, what good is the cosplay if you dont even so much as resemble the character?
It really ticks me seeing fat people cosplay people who arent fat, unless their trying be
that character after years of eating McDonalds.
Or seeing someone pale skinned trying to cosplay someone tanned or black.
or the other way around.
Cuz if its not accurate or you dont resemble the character, you just end up looking retarded as f*ck.
If you are a short, fat, ugly girl dont you dare try to cosplay as a tall, slim, sexy man.
Really.

Chill the fuck down. Cosplay is a fun hobby where you dress up as fictional characters.
Stop getting all butthurt, and maybe you'll stop sounding like a tool.

no, actually it doesnt matter if youre the same skin colour. No one looks exactly like the character they cosplay because they were designed with a specific look. People should cosplay as who ever they feel like cosplaying because its their choice, and your opinion wont change that, so get off of your high horse please.

If that's the case, then slim, pale, sexy, tall, people shouldn't cosplay as characters who are fat, ugly, short, not pale.
Also, what's so bad about being at a below average height? I'm short, and I can really care less if everyone is taller than me. Height is a meaningless thing to be concerned about.
I understand your point, but it seemed overly harsh for no apparent reason.

Because at the end of the day... you're dressing up as a made-up character.

that's obvious. besides, people can use body paint to cover up their skin color, problem solved. It works i've done it and looked white like my friends, so your bull crap comment doesn't phase me.

Cosplay= COStume RolePLAY
If you have the costume and you can be in character, it's done right, no matter the shape and color of the body. For example, I am going to cosplay as Yugi and Atem. If pale people can cosplay as Atem , then I can cosplay as Yugi/Yami Yugi without question. Cosplay is for fun. It's only when it's part of a career/job is when it's taken like what you said (Ex. the workers who dress up as Peter Pan in disney themeparks).

Oh, I know... I'm black, but I refuse to cosplay as white characters merely for accuracy purposes... with the exception of Pokemon Trainers and Alfred Jones (Hetalia) since he's merely a persona of the United States. Lots of colors and races in the old red, white, and blue so I can't go wrong!
But other than that, I just can't.
I'm such a stiff.
SO I COSPLAY POKEMANZ! o3o
And Yoruichi. 'Cause I fucking love her.
Maybe one day, I'll cosplay as Rukia just to get a rise out of people. XD

Same thing goes for ridiculously pale people like me who want to cosplay more tan characters. I was considering genderbending Coyote from Killer 7, but I got yelled at that I couldn't because he's Puerto Rican. I was like...wut? I just want to wear hawaiian shirts and style my hair in a pompadour

I completely agree with this, a good cosplay is not at all measured by how closely you represent the character. It's more about having fun and BEING that character and nothing else. There are some things I would love to cosplay but I'm personally holding myself back from because I feel like I don't fit, but I've seen plenty of people pull off crazy cosplays regardless of how much they are like the character. If you can see the dedication in the cosplay, then who gives a damn about what they look like underneath?
This sounds a bit out of nowhere now, but regarding the stamp I feel like red text is a bit unnoticeable when it comes to the darker colors. I would try making it maybe a bolder black text, or add a stroke if possible. That will just make the letters stand out more and easier to read, you know? Either way, thanks for speaking your mind on this subject!
