Process Chart - Lunar Infinity — Description

Ahhh ive been wanting to do a process chart for a LONG ass time now.
Been getting a lot of people asking me to do this (as well as speedpaints/streaming)
to see how i do things, but this is all i can manage rn lol.
and i finally remembered to capture each stage of my drawing process~ !
(even tho i forgot to add the shading of the hair OTL)
All the more reason to make a hair coloring tutorial in the future, right ;3 ?

( the program i used for this image is paint tool sai )

1. Sketching

just sketch however you feel comfortable, dont worry if its messy.
i usually start out with a gesture and a blob sketch then kill myself
doing a refined sketch. I usually use marker tool but you can use
whatever you want. textured tools work best so that you arent
fixating on every little line like i used to -cri

2. Lining
I LOVE LINING. its the easiest part of my drawing process because
all i do is just trace over my sketch. I use the brush tool with 100%
opacity with ANY COLOR OTHER THAN BLACK! Lining with pure
black makes it easier to see minor mistakes that can make you
waste A LOT of time trying to get lines just perfect when they dont
need to be. ontop of that, colored lines always make your art look
nicer ♥

3. Base/Flat coloring
On the lineart layer, i select everything outside of the character im
drawing then invert the selection so that it isnt taking me forever
just to select. Under the lineart layer, create a new layer for your
BASE and fill in the selection with any dull gray color. create a new
folder ontop of your base layer and set it to clipping group. that
way, you arent coloring anything outside the lines (or your base.)
all thats left is to flat color the image, using one layer per color~

4. Shading
all i gotta say for shading is keep your light source in mind. i use
alot of different tools like brush, watercolor, airbrush, and blend
to add and diffuse color. you can do this on the same layer with
preserved opacity, a new layer, or a new multiply layer. you can
ever add cool textures and junk. experiment. Also, keep in mind
the volumes of what you're shading~

5. Highlighting
This part is pretty simple. the only tools i use for this is brush,
airbrush, and marker. on a luminosity layer, i use airbrush with
a low density to bring in some subtle light and glow effects then
use brush and marker to place the... harder?.. or shinier shines?
i is easy to go overboard on this step tho so be careful~

6. Background + extra touches
this is the part where i usually add extra colors because i just like
colorful things lol. i also add colored filters depending on the back-
ground or setting of the image. take the time to go back to your
image and fix things or even add things like cool effects or whatever.

I still wanna do things like speedpaints to better demonstrate
how EXACTLY i do things, but right now that just isnt
a possibility for me~
but i WILL make a speedpaint one day..!
