There's certainly an epic story going on here. the environment is quite exciting, with both the background mountains rising and falling with the shape of the ruins in the center. All attention is placed upon the characters, every line centering on the scene before us in ways both obvious and subtle. There is clear understanding of the technical skills of art, as well on how to effectively place a scene so that the eye is lead around where the artist wishes for them to be. The warm color scheme is good, it's use in lighting and differing hues make all actions and details clear, but at the same time helps to mix in areas where they need to be. Overall, the setting checks off all requirements for a stable shot, though this does lend itself to creating a moment too frozen in time to be as truly exciting as it should be.
The posing is dramatic, realistic, but ultimately without action. The characters are still, which goes against the epic nature, but nevertheless provide believable forms that works with the scene presented. The character design is the right level of complexity; not too much to tire the eye, but not simply enough to be simply glanced over.
Unfortunately, I have to dock half a point in technique due to the shape of the woman's leg, and the shine of red on the man's eye. Both are a little distracting to the trained eye on extended viewing, but aren't immediately apparent.
The subject matter is epic, but in the end not truly original. The stable shot of the set, along with the passive pose of the characters, make this out to be too common for its own good. However, this doesn't entirely mean it's without merit, as the size and scope of the entire work creates just enough a dramatic appearance to work in the artist's favor.
Overall, this work has a lot of technical knowledge put to great use, with some interesting ideas surrounding its shot placement/size that makes this a quality piece. However, the passive posing and lack of any action in terms of shot, character, and perspective, make this out to be less interesting in its execution.
I applaud this artist's understanding of the techniques and principles of art, as it is quite professional, and hope some can learn on how to shoot a work from this. There is definitely a lot to understand here when it comes to shooting and setting.
