I'm sorry but you just sound like you read a single history book and decided you know something everyone else is oblivious to.
The creation of "The West" (or rather, the beginning of the process of forming the western civilization) predates Islam by quite a few hundred years.
Not to burst your bubble but there have been very many Christian and otherwise non-Abrahamic religious groups and sects living in the lands of Muslims for centuries and to this day there exit a multitude of well integrated Christian minorities, just like there are well integrated Muslim minorities in the west (for example Tatars of Poland).
The Venetian and Genoese traders have been trading with the Muslims despite Popes banning such practices.
Ottomans were very much into the whole trade with the west, since they saw it as very profitable.
It is only natural that any nation or a country may want to ensure protectionist policies for their own traders and trade goods.
Sure the policies may vary and by today's standards (but not really) be seen as barbaric. Let me assure you, both the West and the Chinese had similar practices for any kind of outsiders.
The point of navigating through Africa wasn't only to avoid Muslim nations and polities but also to make Portugal even richer (fair play) by avoiding any sort of taxes and tolls not just from Muslims but also other Christian nations.

That's the point, I mean today most companies (even from the US) simply apply European standards to their products across the globe because that's easier for them as Europe represents the biggest consumer market, because Europe has some harsh standards for Food and other type of everyday products. But you wouldn't call the EU cutthroats for their protectionist policies, now would you?
