in looking through some archive stuff ...i found this impromtu portrait i shot backstage of avril lavigne. trippy, trippy chick. she hates photographs. she told me as much but agreed to do two f'ing frames. this photo -- the colour version, at least -- has run in magazines all over the globe.
she almost looks happy. but ... i'll give her this ... i'd rather my daughter listened to her rather than britney... hell ... i listen to her.
nikon d1x ... bounced flash off of a dark friggin' cieling ... a little bouce going forwad with a strategically placed piece of paper ... don't remember any of the other settings.

Realism, love it and who can't relate to not liking their picture being taken? Love the spontaneity captured instead of the perfectly airbrushed images we are constantly bombarded with.

Very pretty, it shows how she was feeling at the time, not to happy, so it catchs her completely not a fake smile she put on for the camera, and with that alone makes the photo perfect. I love it.

No but i mean, i understand that it is backstage and you have to decide to take a shot fast, but are you happy with the result? don't you agree with me on the light and her expression? I take a lot 'take it or the moment is gone' shots but they always end up on a far corner of my harddisk because they miss the i dunno Cartier-Bresson thing or something. I was just wondering why you posted it and if you posted it JUST because there are a lot of avril groupies on dA

Understood entirely. Nothing wrong with showing something off because other people like it.

I don't mind the girl actually. Sure her music isn't my day to day taste, but she's got some decent material. I saw a live video of her (don't have the fucking money to see her live *just got a Β£500 camera* *ahem*), and she was actually pretty good. With some wacked out fan in the crowd.
He was headbanging too, and i choked on my drink.
