i was asked to make some photos at an afterparty for some film. i didn't want to.but ... the hollywood reporter needed them.
so ... after tracking down the film's publicist i was introduced to the director.
i put him with one of the actresses.
then another.
removed him.
made a 2 sec atmosphere photo.
and left.
then i ran into this dude.
he was pissed as hell about some snow-making something or other. even though it was snowing.
he used the f-bomb more than i did.
but ... he gave me one of my favourite photos from sundance.
leica mp. 50/1.0 noctilux. 1/250th at f/2.0. ilford delta 400 (normal).
NO, NOT A DIGITAL-FRIGGIN' IMAGE.
YES, I KNOW MY LAB'S SCANNER IS DIRTY.
BUT I DON'T CARE.

Mr. Weeks, I believe I know who that guy is. I think it may be mr. Bob Athley here in Utah, a somewhat famous backcountry skier known as the Wizard of the Wasatch. Dont know if you care, but, deal. Hope all is well.

I think everyone who's ever spent more time than they should being a ski/snowboard-bum has met "this guy". This photograph is a fantastic reminder of those kinds of relationship. Stirs up a lot of thoughts for me. Great job, keep it up!

There are icicles on this man's moustache.
The intensity of his spirit is amazing. You can see complete confidence in his composure. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this individual had experience running expeditions in the snow before, or hell climbing Mountain Everest. Is that neccessarily true? Absolutely not. But thats what I see.
Your photography work is incredible, but this photo is special.

I used to work on the mountain tops of Wyoming in 1981-82, and I wore such a beard, in such a fashion more than once. It was -55*F with a 50 MPH wind. I can empathize with this Lad.

This is yet another brilliant shot. I love the details and the composition with the guy standing to the left balanced with his skis. It's certainly not your typical portrait photograph. The depth of field is also really good with an interesting soft focus on the building behind. This guy certainly has a lot of character that shows through even though his eyes are covered by the mask and his face is hidden by his snow-covered beard. He looks great in black and white too.
