Nox shifted slightly, careful not to disturb Nys, who had already claimed her spot against his side. Her fur tickled his shoulder, and her arm was draped lazily over his chest, the faint rise and fall of her breathing a steady rhythm against his own.
“You really should remember to bring your bedroll,” Nox muttered, his silver eyes catching a faint glow as he glanced at her.
“Why bother?” Nys replied with a shrug, her voice low and unbothered. She didn’t even look at him, just adjusted her position so her head nestled a little closer to his collarbone. “Yours works just fine.”
“That’s not the point.” Nox huffed a quiet laugh, shaking his head. “One day, we might need the extra one, you know. What if I decide to kick you out of mine?”
She tilted her head up slightly, green eyes glinting as she smirked. “You won’t.”
“And how do you know that?” he asked, raising an eyebrow, though the amusement in his voice betrayed any attempt at seriousness.
“Because you’re too nice,” she teased, her tail flicking behind her, brushing against his leg. “And, deep down, you’d miss having me around.”
Nox exhaled a short laugh, closing his eyes for a moment. “I don’t know whether to be flattered or annoyed.”
“Both,” Nys said simply, her smirk softening as she rested her head back down. “But seriously, thanks for not kicking me out. You’re... kind of comfortable.”
Her voice dipped into an unusual sincerity, and Nox glanced down at her, momentarily caught off guard by the gentleness in her tone. He felt her grip tighten just slightly, as though anchoring herself to him.
“Well, it’s not like I’d leave you to freeze,” he said softly, his hand hesitating before lightly resting on her thigh. “Besides, I’m getting used to this habit of yours.”
Nys let out a low chuckle, cupping his face with her hand. “Good. Because I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.”
