Description WARNING: MASSIVE FILE, LIKE THE BIGGEST PAINT TOOL SAI WILL ALLOW

Just one of the many types of backgrounds I do Stare if anyone wants to request a tutorial on another background (or another subject for that matter) feel free to comment or shoot me a note ;) (Wink)

New This is ENTIRELY painted on 1 layer, with a basic round brush with 100% min size and 80% opacity in Paint tool sai :3

Been feeling a bit scatterbrained lately and can't get anything done so I decided to just draw random stuff here

Picture 1: I started with a dark green colour as the base, and then used a lighter green to paint the lighter parts of the forest, and used a grayish green tone for the ground. It helps to zoom out of the canvas at this part since nothing is really that detailed and you can afford to sloppily lay down some colours (or at least in my mind Sweating a little...)

Picture 2: Started laying down the basic shapes of the trees, keeping in mind that the trees further in the background are lighter than the ones in front. Yep there are several trees

Picture 3: Painted in some rocks (might make a tutorial on those idk yet) and made the first step towards shading, at this point I'm still zoomed out slightly but not as much as before. There is some detail in the grass as well as the bush in between the foreground grass and the trees that are in the background.

Picture 4: More detail in the grass (for grass I tend to make a really small brush and paint straight lines, try and follow the general direction of the ground while doing so, most of these lines are subtly curved towards the ground following the slope of it). Painted more detail in the bark of the trees (using horizontal curved lines to indicate bark as well as the "muscle" of the tree, this will help you draw roots of the tree more effectively). Started painting the leaves of the trees/bush with a darker shade of green for the foreground trees (and bush) and a lighter shade of green for the background trees.

Picture 5: Big jump in the detail of the leaves, use a slightly bigger brush and use single short strokes going outwards from the branches. In this image I made the outer edge of the leaves lighter than the inside making it seem as if the tree is thick with leaves. I made a light source in the background by outlining the background trees with a bright yellow/green, I use this same colour to make small outlines on the foreground, indicating that the foreground is also exposed to the light source. As mentioned in picture 4 about the curved lines on the bark I used a darker bark colour to make an arced brush stroke to indicate the rise in the tree root. Painting in small flowers/decoration thingies can make a picture more lively, but be sure not to overdo it :) (Smile)
