Shellwalker/Lythe reference sheet (OUTDATED) — Description

Shellwalkers are an original alien species. Though they look like mecha, they are living beings with their own cultures and societies. (More like transformers rather than gundams). Similar to transformers, they have alternate forms. But instead of changing into something else, they function much more like a matryoshka/Russian nesting dolls.
Humans are said to wear metaphorical masks to hide their vulnerabilities. And that’s where I got the idea of the shellwalker gimmick from. Instead of wearing metaphorical masks, they form entire layers of armor around themselves to protect their vulnerable cores, AKA their true selves
Lythe (the character depicted here) Belongs to a very strict caste-based culture that prioritizes efficiency and growth above all else. He is the result of generations of selective breeding and genetic engineering and was born to be trained into a highly skilled soldier. However, he’s not exactly thrilled about the role he’s been forced into.
EDIT: Lythe’s design is not 100% finalized. This is the first concept art I have done for him. His layer 1 design especially needs work. I will post updates here later.
