The BTR-4MV is an improved and uparmored version of the BTR-4. The prototype was revealed in 2013. It was rebuilt from a BTR-4E. The BTR-4MV was proposed to various foreign customers, but received no production orders. This armored vehicle never reached production, but it paved the way for further improved BTR-4MV1 which is a more modern vehicle.

This armored vehicle weights 17.5 t. So it has a similar weight as the baseline BTR-4, but offers a higher level of protection. The front end was revised. Armored windshields and side windows were deleted for a higher level of protection. Two rear doors were replaced by a power-operated hatch with integral doors.

All-round protection of the base armor is against NATO 7.62x51 mm armor-piercing rounds. Ballistic protection corresponds with STANAG 4569 Level 3. Front arc withstands hits from at least 12.7 mm rounds. For even higher level of ballistic protection this vehicle could be fitted with add-on armor kit, bolted over the base armor. Vehicle withstands mine blasts equivalent to 8 kg of TNT. The BTR-4MV is equipped with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems.

The prototype was armed with a BM-7 Parus unmanned turret. This was the most popular turret of the BTR-4. It is armed with a 30 mm automatic cannon, 30 mm automatic grenade launcher and 7.62 mm machine gun. All ammunition is stored externally. There are 2 external launchers for Baryer anti-tank guided missiles. These laser-guided missiles have a maximum range of 5 km and can engage tanks, vehicles, buildings and field fortifications.

This armored vehicle is operated by a crew of 3. It accommodates 7 dismounts. Troops enter and leave the vehicle via rear power-operated hatch with integral doors.

The prototype was fitted with a Deutz BF6M 1015 CP diesel engine, developing 450 hp. It was mated to Allison automatic transmission. Despite increased armor, the BTR-4MV1 retains amphibious capabilities. This armored vehicle is fully amphibious with minimum of preparation. On water it is propelled by two waterjets.

Variants

BTR-4MV1 is a further development of the BTR-4MV. It was first publicly revealed in 2017. It has a redesigned front end and further increased armor protection. Add-on armor plates are bolted over the base armor for a higher level of protection. The turret is fitted with cage armor. The prototype was powered by a German Deutz diesel engine, developing 450. It was mated to an automatic transmission.
