Description
Part one of a ten part art series, telling the story of my butler automaton OC, "Fergie"This is his preliminary design "drawn" out by Mr. James A. Ferguson.

The pieces in this series often get better as it progresses but this one is actually one of my favs because of all the little detail!
A side note though, this is the first piece I had ever done in calligraphy and it was the piece that got me started in calligraphy ink. Now all I ever use now is ink and watercolour!

Ink is fun, but it sucks to make a mistake and mess up, which is why I call it the "Unforgivable Medium".
Even though I have a really unsteady hand, what helps is having a really solid pencil sketch underneath. And unlike felt/ballpoint pens, calligraphy doesn't fade when you erase your sketch afterwards, of course, wait until the ink dries so it doesn't smear!Β

And the 3rd Rule: "Thou shall restrain thyself from consuming any product that cometh from the bean of the coffee plant, as it will make thy hand twitchy as fuck".

Next is the "Thou shalt not poke or impale thyself with thy own nib(s)"

"Thou shalt always cleanse thine hands quickly after your deeds, for the ink stains and stays under your nails for days."

Thou sall not put ink near you writing hand/arm otherwise thou shall spill thy expensive ink. Which brings us to the next part: Thou shalt not spill thy ink, especially onto thy art piece.

Thou shalt always keep into thy possession a bottle of white out, for verily thou will fuck up at some point.

Ugh I never use white out. If you wait long enough you will see the drawing in the series that has the globby tempra paint to cover some ink up. LOL.
Thou shalt not dip thy nib with so much ink it drips on thy paper.

Well, I say "white out", but really I mean the stuff made especially for ink. I don't remember how it's called. It's much thinner and enjoyable to use.
Thou shalt not press on thy nib like a crazy brute and thus break thy nib, causing ink to explodeth everywhere.

Huh, never heard of it. Usually Β when I messed up I am just screwed for life so I roll with the punches. I mean, if you do look very carefully at these pieces you can find where I messed up, but that's a lot of work...
Thy shalt not write against the direction of where the nib faces/moves otherwise thou shall make a big splattery mess.

Yeah, I forgot how it's called. Besides, I only use ink pen of varius sizes now, if ever.Β And photoshop the mistakes out when I'm done. Β

Put thy ink wash on after thy ink has dried and vice versa. Unless thou likest bleeding ink.

I'd say if you want to use digital,Β a graphic tabletΒ is a must. Luckily those tend to get less ans less expensive as time goes by and technology progresses

Yeah, I will be getting one for Christmas hopefully. The tablet is usually not the problem, the problem is the program. Of course I am used to photoshop, which is expensive. But yeah.

Sai is actually pretty good as far as I have fiddled with it.
heh, yeah, still it's what I am used to. Plus who I borrowed the tablet from gave me help and tips right away and gave me upfront help. I have a hard time understanding tutorials and such.
For now I stick with traditional, way easier though probably more expensive in the long run with supplies and all though with everything digital, traditional is begining Β to die out, no matter what crap digital artists say about being told digital is not a medium.
Oh, I have a friend who likes to lick his mediums just for the sake of testing it. Ink lasts a long time and I spattered some in mouth, it was awful.
Thou shall always mix/stir ink carefully before use.
