Thanks Jim for a very helpful review.Β

Ah the house finch. I am not sure why it would house in its name, maybe because they want to live in the eaves of our houses?
We have them here and they very industrious and devoted.
A lovely portrait

I just love this beautiful photo. The background certainly adds to the whole image. I totally agree with the critique.

No thanks necessary, stunning photo!

Simply beautiful! I like the color combination in this

Had to plant the trees and feed the bird, but never dreamed such color would arrive. It took four years to make the shot.

It was very well worth it!

you are most welcome..

Thank you very much.

Oh, that's pretty! So colourful it just makes me happy. What a lovely shot!

Very glad to make you happy. I think that is the point of spring. It is a universal joy to spread about. That must be what life is all about.Β

Thank you for saying so, Christopher.

You're welcome.
Could I ask the species of the bird?

A really wonderful shot; The depth of field is beautiful and the main focus (the bird) really stands out nicely, and has really nice detail to it.Β

Thank you for the kind words, Alice. As I look at the shot over and over, I tend to find fault with it. Your comment has cheered me though. None the less, I have come to think bird photography is an illness.

Glad I could help,
When it comes to it, we always seem to be our own worst critic.Β Especially with bird photography, since it's such a tricky thing to get right.Β

Nice photo and great color! I think that is a House Finch!
π: 0 β©: 1
It is indeed a male house finch in breeding prime in Kansas.

Such clarity--with a contrasting background and the colors to boot create a wonderful view. Bravo!

Thanks a million Shyll. (I'm hoping that's how you want to be called). Enjoyed looking at your work.

Beautiful shot. I love images that show off a bird perching too, with a lot of smaller birds their legs seem almost fragile but they're able to pull off some amazing balancing acts.

Yes, birds are terribly addictive, Blitz. I always use a tripod, by the way. Read your journal.
π: 0 β©: 1
Agreed, birds are a lot of fun. Thanks for taking the time to read my journal,Β looking through your gallery (which I could favorite everything in by the way, really enjoying it) I can see that using a tripod doesn't sacrifice any dynamism of the image. And from my limited practice I can tell that it results in less near misses in terms of clarity

beautiful image indeed, i love the colortones in this image a lot, the orange with pink are beautiful,

What strikes me most, Phil, is that the finch and the red bud tree are both native to Kansas, and that the colors of the two become so extreme simultaneously in spring, as if the arrangement were being coordinated by an unseen hand which reveals itself in the urge for life. It makes me certain that we do not validate the mystery enough.Β

that is something i believe in too,

OH wow, gorgeous shot, I love the colors !!

Thank you, Nova. I think that bird and tree affirm the gift of life for all of us.

Your welcome !

Thank you, Penny!

Thanks, William. Its not easy trying to catch all the colors in the frame at once, like waiting for planets to align.Β
