Sunday Steam — Description
Yes, it's Sunday, and I ended up at Warrington Bank Quay. For two reasons, one being the next picture in line, and one being this little beauty.

6233 "Duchess Of Sutherland" is an L.M.S Coronation Class 7P 4.6.2, the same class as Duchess Of Hamilton except without the streamlining. She was outshopped in 1938 as the third batch of her class, unstreamlined, with a single chimney and no smoke deflectors, painted in LMS Crimson Lake livery in common with other express passenger locomotives of the company.

She was originally allocated to Camden, London, and had a double chimney fitted in 1941, and acquired her smoke deflectors in 1945 after various complaints of drifting smoke. She was repainted into postwar LMS black livery, until 1952/3 when she was repainted again into BR Brunswick Green, at the same time receiving her BR number of 46233. She was later allocated to Carlisle Upperby depot, before being withdrawn from service from Edge Hill depot in 1964.

After withdrawal in February of that year, she was later acquired in October 1964 by Butlins Heads-of-Ayr holiday camp in Scotland. Later she was moved to Bressingham Steam Museum, before being acquired by the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust, and restored to working order on the Midland Railway, Butterly, for a duration of 5 years costing £350,000 to restore. She is fitted with AWS, TPWS and OTMR to allow her to run on the mainline, and has hauled the Royal Train twice since withdrawal from regular service.

Today, she hauled the steam charter from Liverpool Lime Street to Holyhead along the North Wales Coast Line, a line which was to see quite a bit of activity today...
