PRESERVED.. — Description
Preserve me in formaldehyde,
in the quiet sanctity of a jar,
where I can look out, but cannot hear
Just one in rank upon rank,
unstartling, unstartled.
No tidal waves of hope, or loss
No agonies of joy
No sound, no movement
Just drifting, drifting,
slowly
Until the end.

PreservesPreserve me in cotton wool
Preserve me in formaldehyde,
in the quiet sanctity of a jar,
where I can look out, but cannot hear
Just one in rank upon rank,
unstartling, unstartled.
No starfish here, no many-legged creatures
peering from the gloom
No tidal waves of hope, or loss
No agonies of joy
No sound, no movement
Just drifting, drifting,
slowly
Until the end. Aconitum-Napellus
