Darksiders Death — Description
As a Joe Mad fan playing Darksiders II, it wasn't hard to get inspired. The game was a blast and I really liked the character of Death. Thought he'd make a fun painting subject and I was right.

I didn't get very ambitious with the colors, but learned more interesting things on this one. For instance, colors not only dry at different speeds but have different finishes too. The burnt umber I used for most of the figure has a real flat matte finish while the prussian blue has a semi gloss finish. I like the gloss finish. The paint still looks wet and that's just cool to me.

Speaking of drying times, titanium white takes forever. Today was when it finally felt dry enough to scan and I finished this piece over two weeks ago. Strangely enough, I mix titanium white into just about everything, but as long as it's not pure white, it'll dry pretty fast. I'm learning techniques to speed that along a bit. Oils are a strange kinda animal.
