A whole absolute chaos of a year passed by. For Dagna, the consequences of the actions the adults in charge had, meant no one went to competitions for months. Or at least, not her, nor Jim or Teo. Just his dad, at the end of the year. Not that she really cared back then, as life was literally hanging by a thread; but now as she prepared to ride Molly, she realized she really, really missed it. She always thrived on the atmosphere of competitions, finding it fascinating to watch the riders, horses, and everything that goes behind an event.
Now finally, almost as an apology for the months they missed out of competition grounds and after years of wanting to try her hand in Eventing, his dad allowed her to do so with Molly. The mare has been on the stables for just a few months, but she guessed being Kamelot's mom tugged a bit on everyone hearts; her personality gave his dad the last reason to let her do so. They all knew she was not a horse to put herself at risk and in consequence, she barely put the rider at risk. With that in mind, it was easier to gain permission to compete.
This time, Jim and Lorelei helped her out; his dad was apparently way too nervous to be able to help with the task, as he never was one to really like Eventing. Or at least, he didn't like allowing her to participate on it. So, her uncle and his girlfriend were the ones who came with her to the stalls. They groomed and tacked Mollym then Jim walked her to the warm-up area to help her in any way he could.
As they walked, Dagna watched him constantly, and for a moment she pondered on the fact she never trully knew until a few months ago, how much she would've missed him if he wasn't around; how different her experiences would be if he wasn't her instructor. How different life would've looked if he wasn't around anymore. He spoke softly but firmly about all the things she needed to worry about, even thought back at home they had been over all of the logistics, over and over and over again and, as they had walked the course the day before, he carefully explained about the speed she needed to maintain and/or allow the mare; the different jumps; distances and turn there was around the course; what things could distract the mare or herself on the course-
"Dagna?" his voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Are you listening?"
"No. Sorry."
Jim sighed, a bit of an annoyed look passing through his eyes as he shook his head lightly.
"Kid, you have to focus out there" he said again as they reached the warm up and he stopped the mare by holding the reins. Molly seemed surprised by the action and looked back at him, curious. Jim looked shortly at the mare and gave her a scratch on the neck, a movement that the mare seemed to accept, but she decided she was not really interested on being pet and looked away.
"I know" she said back after watching the interaction, gaining his attention once again. "I will. I heard you yesterday. And the day before," she smiled, and in return Jim scoffed a bit, smiling.
"Your dad will kill the both of us if anything happens out there. Sorry if I worry for both our lifes" he smiled again, obviously joking and Dagna was the one to shake her head this time.
"We will be ok, Jim."
Jim looked at her for a few seconds, and nodded.
"I know," he petted the mare once again on the neck, before stepping out of her way, allowing her to move if she desired. "Take care of her, Molly."
"Jim?"
"Yeah?"
Dagna was about to speak but stopped herself. What did she want to say? her uncle looked at her expectantly, probably waiting for a question about something technical. After all, he was the "expert" back home.
She didn't know. I love you? I'm happy you are here?
Truth be told, she still had this sensation that this could have not happened months before; that it might never have happened if the universe decided against it; that he might not have been alive to see her do this.
That she might have not done so if he ever died.
Jim looked back to the mare and then back to Dagna, making eye contact again. Right.
"Thank you" she said, slowly, not really knowing how to express that it wasn't just because of bringing her here.
He smiled once again, softly, and patted her leg.
"Go. Enjoy."
All was ok.

Aaaaand they're back to competing!
I really need to catch up my plot. But as spoilers have it, and sadly it is important to this point foward (well, TWD too.) Jim got serious health issues and almost died. That is basically the first real touch with death that Dagna knows, as she was really small when her own mother passed. So, yeah. It's not only a happy moment because of a dream coming true, but for the people she got around.
Also I just love Molly so much, I needed to bring her around already. xD Kamelot got her good looks from her.
