Factsheet: Demon Birth Defects — Description

Basically demons have insane amounts of subspecies and they all vary by location and so on. However they all share the possibility of these rather distinctive birth defects, and so they're the closest thing the species has to races. Oh and though they're called birth defects here, there is a possibility of being a late bloomer and looking like a standard demon then sponteaneously transforming one day. This is pretty rare though- for each decade old basically add an extra two zeros onto the probability number.
All these defects can be passed on with 99% probability if two manifested carriers breed.

Angels
This race had the fortune/misfortune to be adopted by humans as the 'messengers of god'- basically deciding these living creatures corresponded to the characters in the bible and adopting their racial name into the text. The 'halo' concept was copied from a particular demon subspecies named Seraphim that have a ring of light above their head. (along with six wings and a buncha eyes..)
Because of this, there was somewhat of a cataclysm between the 'race' of angels and the main species. (since humans despised the rest of them) The angels at the time split off and formed their own tribe, but harsh conditions gradually reverted them to mere animalistic predators. The separated tribe bred exclusively amoungst themselves and spread across the world this way, forgetting they were ever connected to a larger species- it's most likely you'll encounter one of these wild fierce angels than a civilized one raised amoungst normal demons.
The angels' distinctive wings are unusual and magically blessed. An angel can literally fly forever without tiring. Their feathers are impossibly light and also levitate, and their strength increases the more of them are put together. Thus the wild angels learnt to build nests in the sky out of feathers held together by guano. (not a pleasant thought) There are many 'cities' of interconnected nests hidden in clouds, and adventurers often try and raid them since angels love to hoard shiny things.
* Incidentely Perpetually On Fire Syndrome is painless and fairly neat. It means a random limb is on fire forever and burns everyone but you- it can come in handy, or it can be nightmare cos you keep brushing your tail against stuff and setting buildings alight..

Devils
This race had the definate misfortune of being told by humans that they were one person named satan, and hated even more than regular demons. There were a lot of wars, both against humans and between demons and devils. However the devils never completely split from major society. There are still small communities of anti-devil demons and anti-demon devils, segregated areas and varying feelings all around. The general sentiment is 'lets grudgingly get along, as long as you don't start anything I won't'- though since there are more demons there are obviously more anti-devil racists... its a complicated thing that isn't gonna resolve any time soon even though its OFFICIALLY "peace time".
Devil culture varies in a few ways. This is sort of because devils living in primarily demon settlements have a higher rate of aethism as opposed to the sometimes maniacal flag-waving patriotism most demon countries are known for. There's less of a culture of 'you have to follow Demonicry just like your father and his father' so they're more free to choose and therefore overall more bohemian in views. Unlike demons they don't preach non-killing in all circumstances, and aren't as rough and tumble and into the sport and arena fighting scene. (Generally speaking) "Forsooth the six sages did say to hone thine combat skills and judge righteousness in an honorable duel" and so on.. XD Devils also don't have any exclusive religion of their own, though Buddhism has shown a popularity rise lately.
So devils pretty much live up to being 'demons.. but a little different'. No matter what they always seem to be proud of their horns and can sometimes get a little anal about correcting anyone who calls them a demon and just a demon. (its basically the equivelant of 'grammar nazi' on forums)

Imps
The rarest birth defect, these unusual demons are covered entirely in shades of one colour, in addition to being occasionally extraoridinarily magically gifted and sometimes having a blender for a head or something. They're certainly the most distinctive yet have no individual culture as they only show up once every now and then. But its still classed as a race on the census XD
Expect these guys to get all sorts of pressure both to be special (from parents) and to fit in (from kids picking on them). Its a tough life, but in the end a disproportionate amount of Imps end up in high academic positions. :3
