  Determined- This has always been the case, since she was born Chii has fought for everything she’s wanted

  Cheerful/Friendly- Sometimes this is genuine, occasionally it isn’t. Chii is never intentionally rude and tries to be nice.

Introspective- Spending a year traveling by herself she’s had plenty of time to think inward, but just because she’s no longer traveling doesn't mean she has stopped introspecting. There is always more to think about, and one questions she has asked herself again and again in her life is “What should I do next?”

Irregularly Apathetic- She can care very deeply about a lot of things and people, but she is known to struggle with caring about people she doesn’t know very well. She also has almost no sympathy for strangers, regardless of circumstance. A fellow student could have lost their mother (something Chii should relate to heavily) and she could just not care.

  Literal- speaking exclusively literally isn’t in itself a negative trait, but Chii struggles with understanding things like sarcasm, another people-skill-lacking result of her lone travels.

Chii is incredibly determined and ambitious. Both are evident in her studies. She’s very bright, and loves the outdoors, especially the ocean. While she can be very cheerful and friendly (and cares very deeply for her family and friends), she is prone to fits of apathy toward strangers in need, making her appear cold (This is an intentional contrast to her otherwise cheery personality). She struggles with reading people, and is constantly baffled by sarcasm. This, her apathy, and an inclination for introspection, are caused by years of isolation (see history).

History: Chii was born in Floaroma Town in the Sinnoh region, but moved to Lilycove City in Hoenn shortly after her mother passed away from an illness. She grew up with her father and brother, and excelled in her studies. She was a grade ahead of her age, a byproduct of her intellect and love of learning.

Chii’s early school life was nothing interesting. Her father and brother encouraged her to excel, so she did. For her, nothing beat the feeling of her brothers pride. She was a little too smart, which alienated people, so she didn’t really have friends. She just went through school studying and learning with no distractions until she graduated.

Chii did have one friend, her brother. He was her best friend. They shared common interests (animals, outdoors, books) and after their mother passed away they shared the responsibility of taking care of their father. Chii’s brother was supposed to attend Desta, but before his first semester even started he went missing. Chii graduated high school early, at the age of 17, and spent a year looking for her brother all over Hoenn. Her family was never really struggling for cash, so she mostly used public transportation, funded by her father. She started looking in major cities, than smaller towns, and eventually searched the wilds for him. She didn’t find him. What she did find was a trail of people/pokemon helped by him in some way, stretching across the entire region. The trail ended at a remote dock, with an old pelipper who had given her brother a ride to a far away region. The best Chii could figure was her brother had had some sort of epiphany that had caused him to drop everything and travel the world helping people. But Chii could not follow, instead returning to her father when she was 18, fulfilling the promise she made when she left.

Rachel doesn't actually know for sure why her brother left. She doesn't know why he couldn't wait until after school to travel, and she doesn't know why he didn't tell her. It still keeps her up at night. This is important to her character, she always has this sense of “Why?” that constantly has her hungry for answers. What she does know is that since he left, he has been helping all sorts of people and they’ve been helping him get around in return, and she knows that for some reason he left without an explanation. She also believes he was headed to Unova, a conclusion she came to after speaking with the old pelipper from the dock.

Chii had a lot of adjusting to do to get reaccustomed to her old life. Unfortunately, a year of isolation and no natural inclination had left her severely lacking in people skills. And a small part of her blamed the people her brother helped for his disappearance (something that lead her to develop fits of apathy toward strangers). Chii really wants to go to Desta because she likes the campus, and going there would give her a feeling of connection with her brother. She wants to major in Feral Studies, something both her and her brother were interested in.
