Another tutorial! Boogie! This time is on how to change the color of an image.

I forgot to add in the tutorial itself, to get the rainbow effect, you just select a rainbow gradient, set it to linear, and drag it across the flower. It conforms to the transparency lock just like the solid color does.

I'm sure there're already tutorials like this out there, I just discovered this method on my own a few months back. It might not be original, but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :) (Smile)

Hey, me again Sweating a little...

I followed the steps but when I get to changing the foreground colour, there doesn't seem to be an option for changing it to black :( (Sad)

There are multiple ways of changing the foreground color--if you double-click the foreground color box in the toolbox (those two boxes on top of each other in the middle of the toolbox, the top one is foreground) a new dialogue box will pop up where you can choose your color, either by the slider or entering a value on the side. Next to those two boxes on top of each other is a tiny icon version of the two boxes; just click that and it resets your colors to default. :) (Smile)

In the top menu bar, click Windows>Dockable Dialogues>Layers. :) (Smile) I think that Crtl+L (on a PC) and Cmd+L (on a MAC) will also open the layers panel.

It's in the middle of the toolbar on the left-hand side--double-click the two overlapping color boxes, and the color dialogue box should pop up. :) (Smile)

Uh, this is lame, I know, but is there such a tutorial for Photoshop CS2? (I got it fo free)

I think with a bit of tweaking, you could probably adapt this method to work for Photoshop. :) (Smile) I've never used CS2, only CS5, so I don't know how advanced the CS2 is compared to CS5 and GIMP. Try searching for a coloring tutorial in the Resources and Stock Images gallery, or check out some of the tutorial groups here in deviantART such as #TutorialsClub or #ArtistsHospital . Perhaps someone there might know how to help you! :D (Big Grin)

CS2 is less advanced than CS5. Not sure how advanced in relation to GIMP.

Yes, that works as well! :) (Smile) Often when I do that, though, the gradation of colors becomes pixellated. Since I like having very dark, dramatic shadows in my photomanipulations, the black shadows don't bother me too much. :) (Smile) Whatever floats your boat, you know! :D (Big Grin)

No problem! :D (Big Grin) Lock transparency is a huge timesaver, especially since GIMP doesn't yet have a "clipping mask" option like Photoshop does (at least, not to my knowledge! ;) (Wink))

Yeah, neither does Paint Shop Pro, but I think it does have a lock transparency option.

Good simple, beginner tutorial ^^ Out of curiosity do you find that this produces a better result than just simply selectign the flower an going to color>colorize? Also it is fun to see a tutorial for GIMP users; so many people get snooty about GIMP being less useful than PS but it sure works for me ;) (Wink)
