Description EDIT:

Just wanted to clear something up. The little kid on the first panel is Edward and the boy grown up Ed holds is his son, they're different kids, but they wear similar clothes on purpose.

If you pay close attention his son's hair is even a different shade of gold.

--

I think Hohenheim was a good man, a good man that made many mistakes as a father, but a good man in the end.

He was never mean to his boys, but he'd try to avoid being near them as much as possible fearing they'd become "monsters" like him. You can't explain this to a 4-5 year old though, being ignored can hurt as much as abuse.

The way I see it, Ed never really hated his father, he was simply too resentful, but deep inside he missed and needed his dad.

Edward will probably be afraid to make the same mistakes his father made, so I think he'll do his best to be there for his children when they need him. He'll make a great dad.

...

I've had this idea in my head for months, I think it's a good thing I waited, I really love how it came out.

I love how I can see the meaning behind this picture. It's not just another picture I glance at when I'm browsing DA. It made me stop and think of what it truly portrays. I can feel Ed's love for his child. In honesty, this is a very simple picture, but the the impact is so great that I'm left speechless. I like your use of white. In the first picture, the white tells me that Baby Elric is lonely and sad, but in the nest picture, the white gives Daddy Edward an angelic glow behind him. Blank can portray just as much meaning as a rainbow. Well done on that. I also applaud you for facial expressions and body language. Edwards clear love for Baby Elric shines very much by his face and you captured his emotions perfectly. I love how you have your own sense of style in drawing anime and manga type of characters. Your work is original and not copied. The only thing I would watch your coloring and detail work, though. Baby Elric's shoes are different in both scenes, his shorts are a different color, and I'm confused as to what the brown thing on the back of his shirt is. Except for those few minor details, I give this a 98.7%, which is still an A+.

Thank you for your critique :3

I just wanted to point something out, the little boy in the 2 pictures is not the same boy, the lonely boy is Edward, and the boy older Ed is holding is his son. That's the reason the clothes are different, and the hair is different too. I just wanted to use similar clothes.

Good men mean well, though they more oft than naught end up doing more harm than good. GrandDa told me that a lot when I was young. First thing that came to mind when I thought of Hohenheim and Ed. Hell of a job, Ms. Cherry, hell of a job.

GAaaaaaAAagh! My Hohenheim and Ed feels are exploding! It makes me really happy that you see how much Ed secretly wants reconciliation with his dad.

I agree with you that he'd make a great dad.

I love how little Ed's and adult Ed's shadows cross in the middle! The fact that Hohenheim's shadow is apart from Ed's while adult Ed's shadow is merged with his child's is really meaningful.

This is such a beautiful picture. I love the meaning of it, and I agree that Edward would make a wonderful father, watchful of the things he does so he doesn't make the same mistakes his father did. And I also agree that even though Hohenheim wasn't there, he was a good man. I love how you draw Edward. Your style of art really makes emotions stand out. It's a wonderful picture!!!!!

So. MUCH. Love. In. One. SINGLE. Picture!
I can't stop gazing at it...it's just absolutely breath-taking. Ed's smile is so warm, you can almost feel his love for his child. He'd definitely be an awesome dad. Sure, messy from time to time, but still...he'd never let anything happen to his children.

...Gawd, thanks to you I'm sentimental again

Nice description, it definitely shows there's more to the story than people would think.
I also believe he was a good man, just very misunderstood by his children. He wasn't there when they needed him most, so they ended up burning down their house and everything from the past they could physically get rid of.
When he finally showed up, they already knew how to act and care for themselves, Edward resentful and unforgiving, Alphonse upset but forgiving. I think he realized how much he had lost in all that time...

This is so sweet. I agree that Ed would be an incredible father. Even though Hohenheim hurt him, meaning to or not, he did have many father-figures (if he wants to admit it or not) that helped to shape him and show him care. I do think also that he would be afraid of making the mistakes of his biological father when he's a father.
Again, this is great!!

It really is true; I love how you interpreted that into Edward's behavior. He would be the kind of father who could, at a start, fear so much of following his father's shoes, of leaving his family behind because of the mistakes he's made.

But I think everyone else on here can agree that he would, in the end, be the best father a child could ever ask for. If anything, he'd make his parents proud to.~

Lovely picture, by the way~ I love the lighting, and how it's like a simple reflection of it's own. It's actually more like a book to me in a way; the past and the present face each other with a similar expression with different meanings behind them. Beautiful job.~ Really! I love your display of the emotions, and I love the children.~ So cute! Heart

This is...Pretty damn accurate, I hope. I definitely see Ed doing this if he had kids. I think he'd be a little scared, ending up like his father and whatnot, but I think in the end he'd be the best dad to his children and more.
