Martian Fighting Machine Prototype Multi View — Description

Some nicer shots of the completed model prototype. This is the first test print and assembly of my 1:48 scale Fighting Machine from Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds. The original design was by Michael Trim and it's his original art that this is based upon.

For a first draft I'm really pleased with how it turned out. All of the joints are fully articulated and the heat ray projector moves in all 4 directions. The feet are ball jointed and the legs have been designed to snap together so it can be taken apart for storage or transport.

People who know their tripods will have spotted that the struts and the leg cables are missing. I'm still deciding what materials to make them out of since they need to be flexible.

Once I've finished adjusting the design I'll print a final version, sand and finish the surface and then break out the airbrush and paint it.

If you're curious about the size, the Fighting Machines are described as being 100 feet tall in the book. The model itself stands just over 2 feet tall. The cats can easily walk under it
