Description

Boo! Heeeeey wait a minute Ava, it's not Tuesday! And that's not a vampire! No it's not and no he isn't, but it is my buddy Jacob's birthday today, and his self-insert persona does slay vampires professionally! Ur just gonna have to put up with it 😘

One of the most important resources in my worldbuilding for the Drake Hero Universe is my “No Character Left Behind” policy. I don't care what the original context was or how dumb of a joke character they are, I believe there's objectively always a way to craft lore for them which everyone will take seriously even while they're laughing at it. My superhero OC, the Golden Ratio, for example, began life as little more than a graded sketch for my high school Latin class, and now she's one of the most powerful entities in the DHU. Inevitably, this mission to rescue every character I've ever made for any purpose eventually began to extend to my fanfiction days. Jacob and I bond by riffing lore off each other, which is how we became cowriters in the first place. We had a lot of plans to extend old Project Thunderbird into several archs with several competing factions, but its intrinsic imprisonment inside of Ubisoft's crumbling franchise always killed our buzz. It's been ten years since we wrote those stories, and enough is enough. We decided we want our characters back, and we want to tell all those stories we used to in our language. You'll be seeing a lot more characters rebooted for the Drake Hero Universe next year, as part of my New Year's resolution to put more spotlight on my original content, but today we commemorate Dusk Alimar, the unsung hero at the heart of Circle City who's prevented reality from being torn apart at the seams for over a decade now! You're welcome.

The year had been 2015, the date had been just two weeks after the Thunderbirds had killed the Devil. Two weeks and whiffling more yet for a young man to come to terms with the simple fact: Nothing would ever be the same. Two weeks was all he had to realize that in hardly a year, he saw fit to smite a city on God's behalf, died twice, once as someone else, and circumferenced the Ninth Circle. It was really funny when you said out loud! Put like that, the Sonder Witch’s idea of a fanfic made sense. Felt like he was stumbling into a comic book of his own!

As the sun went down on the bench of an empty park, where the boy found more comfort than among the other survivors, so too did the summer green retreat from light and life. At the epicenter of this wilt was a sturdy old man who claimed to be Cain, the Product of Eve, the Sevenfold Curse, a man whose offering of tilled earth and golden seeds were not enough for God, but perhaps, Cain offered, a hearth and home would be good enough for a directionless savant in the arcane weave, if one would know where to find such an adolescent?

The answer inevitable, Cain gave full security clearance to the newest commissioned employee of the Phylax Corporation: Codename Alimar, the Luminant Ribbon of God's Dusk. Cain has yet to correct him for shortening his pseudonym to "Dusk Alimar". The thesis of the Stormbreaker Project was simple: Cain is a man of vast influence, and possesses unfathomable, arcane technologies which would end human society as its current foundations rest upon should they ever, for example, break loose from one of Cain's otherwise ironclad facilities. Dusk Alimar is given authority to command an elite strike force of remarkable individuals as he sees fit to recruit, only the choicest meat from the perfection of species Homo sapiens, and nothing less, that they might possess the divinely-ordained might required to bring down even one such loose cannon. Dusk's not sure he's quite struck that sort of oil yet, but he knows the mission Cain really gave him these bottomless resources for was even flatter: "Prove me wrong."

Alright. Fine, you bastard. We're gonna go save the world. Dusk Alimar and the Stormbreakers: Cain's Offering.

NAME: Dusk Alimar

RANK: Grand Master

BIRTH: 10/22/1997 - Indiana

HEIGHT: 6' 2"

That's now about all you'll glean about this Dutchman from the singular paper copy of the agent file in Cain's top desk drawer. When Cain approached the youth now-called Dusk some ten years ago to create the Stormbreaker Unit, a bargain was struck which saw the complete deletion of any personal history relating to Dusk's secret identity. Dusk may put on a mask of professionality at times, but at his core, he has people he cares about and seeks to protect from all the asinine bullshit which his new life as a superhero has thrown his way. That's why Cain approached him as first choice for the leader of Stormbreaker to begin with. Though Cain has long since devoided himself of emotion, Dusk's particular curiosity inspired him to reconsider, at least for practical reasons. Dusk, he believes, is far too attached to his friends and family to get any real work accomplished, yet bafflingly he cannot deny the results. Stormbreaker is nearly a dozen-strong now, a powerful super team brought together by Dusk's forgiveness of their past sins.

While teamwork may be Dusk's natural superpower, he also isn't without a roster of benefits bestowed on behalf of Phylax Security and its associated allocations. The humble leather duster made first as a cosplay of his favorite wizard has long since been augmented with the latest advancements in both technology and arcana. It's the perfect modern compliment to the staff of his ancestor, a confused introduction into Dusk's life at a young age which has no less become the literal conduit both of his achievements in the Folkloric School of Magic and the friends he made along the way. He also slays vampires and makes Dayve extremely angry. Happy birthday you son of a bitch!

Design notes, much as I am extremely German across the board, Jacob's family tree is overrun with Dutchmen, including one Dirck Gorris Storm, cofounder of Sleepy Hollow, to whom Jacob has attached a very reverent legacy. While the real secret purpose behind this design is to riff off of Jacob's favorite novel series The Dresden Files, I wanted to take the parody in a more stylish direction that'd echo the 17th century glamor of the Dutch Golden Age. That duster isn't just infused with channeled arcana, but the latest in modern technology which supplies his get up with all sorts of glowy bits. His staff is powered by elementally-charged marbles which he can either slot into the staff to activate their associated magicks, or store them in the false bottoms of his bandolier canisters. The unscrewable tops of said canisters meanwhile contain not gunpowder but bags of holding which outpour an unlimited supply of each of the four elements he uses as spell components. I like to imagine his glowy superhero symbol on the back (he calls it the “Alimar Mater”, a symbol made by combining triangular alchemical glyphs into one shape) changes color according to which element he's using to cast a spell. It's extra as fuck, but that's my brother from another mother for ya.
