Description
Name: Cortinarius violaceus

Import: C-056
Coat Color: Wisteria Smoky Black Zebrine Spotted Blanket Appaloosa (Carries Mosaic) + Bend'or Spots
Genotype: Ee aa nCr nNec nTde D+D+ nMo nLp
Sex: Stallion
Age: 2 years
Height: 12.2 hh
Build: Court is a compact, dense-boned Cairn pony standing 12.2hh. He has a deep chest, a strong sloping shoulder, and a short, powerful back, with a lower-set croup that gives him real drive and jump for his size. His legs are short and thick with wide joints and tough hooves, carrying light feathering at the fetlocks, and his cannons are slightly long for his height, which gives his movement a balanced, fluid quality. His ears are small and sharp and constantly flicking, set above a soft nose and violet eyes. He has a thick, long mane and a long flowing tail. As a two-year-old he is still filling out, so his frame will keep changing for a while yet.
General Temperament: Court is a big personality in a small body. He is bold, intensely curious, and quick-thinking, the sort of pony who meets the world head-on and expects it to be interesting. He is emotionally perceptive and reads the people around him closely, and once he decides someone is his, he is devoted to them with a loyalty that far outsizes his stature. He is not stubborn so much as opinionated, a thinker who wants to understand the point of what he is being asked before he gives it his all. There is a deep, almost regal steadiness underneath the cheek that hints at the solid partner he will become.
Disposition and Behavior: Confident and into everything. Court investigates, tests, and problem-solves constantly, and he is quick to notice and exploit any inconsistency or hesitation in his handling. None of it is malicious; he is simply clever and young, and he treats unclear rules as an invitation to find the edges. He bonds hard and works to please the person he trusts, but he will quietly check out for anyone who is unsure or unfair with him. In a herd he settles easily and already shows the type's habit of inserting himself near unsettled horses, a small protective streak surfacing early.
Under saddle: Not yet started under saddle. At two he is too young for ridden work, so he is in the foundational stage: leading, standing, handling, picking up feet, and early groundwork and desensitizing. He takes to it eagerly and learns fast, though his focus comes in bursts and his curiosity pulls him in every direction. The willingness and the brains are obviously there; what he needs now is a consistent, trust-building foundation before any thought of backing.
Things to work on:
Consistency and clear boundaries, since he reads and exploits any uncertainty in handling
Focus and patience, building a longer attention span and the ability to stand and wait quietly
A solid groundwork foundation, leading, tying, standing for the farrier, and manners, before he is ever started under saddle
Quirks/extras:
Carries himself like a horse three times his size, all presence and self-importance despite the 12.2hh frame
An opinionated thinker who likes to understand the point of a request before he commits to it, pausing to weigh things rather than simply reacting
Treats locks, gates, and routines as puzzles to be solved, and quietly tests any handler for cracks in their consistency
Thrives on attention and praise, visibly trying harder the moment he knows he is being watched and admired
Owner: Seilean. Seilean bred and owns Court, who was born at her stable, and she has entrusted his day-to-day training to Belphie while keeping a careful eye on his progress herself. As with every horse in her care, she has him noted in her hand-bound journal, his temperament, his quirks, the things he loves and the things he hates, and she named him, as she names all of them, after a fungus. They are content to let Belphie be his person and simply make sure the young pony has everything he needs to grow up sound, well-handled, and known.
Trainer/Rider: Belphie. Belphie trains and rides Court, and the two are deeply bonded. Her warm, encouraging, motherly way with the ponies she works with is exactly what draws out a young Cairn who gives his whole heart to the person he trusts, and she leads him with quiet confidence rather than force. Court soaks up the steady attention, and Belphie watches over him like one of her own.
Disciplines: (projected)
Primary - Pony Jumpers. Pony jumpers test a pony's scope, carefulness, and speed over fences, rewarding boldness, athleticism, and a quick, brave attitude. It suits Court almost perfectly. The Cairn type's lower croup and natural drive give him real jumping ability for his size, and his fearless, meet-it-head-on temperament is exactly what a jumper needs facing a course. His cleverness becomes an asset in reading a line and a distance, and the job gives his busy mind something absorbing to chew on.
Secondary - Mounted Games. Mounted games are fast, agile, team-based speed-and-skill races that reward a quick, responsive, level-headed pony who genuinely enjoys having a job. Court's boldness, athleticism, and deep bond to his rider make him a natural fit, since the discipline runs entirely on trust and partnership at speed. It also channels his energy and curiosity into structured fun rather than mischief, which is the best possible outlet for a pony like him.
Medical & Behavioral Background
Primary Condition: Behavioral immaturity rather than anything medical. Court is a sound, healthy colt whose main challenge is being young, bold, and clever enough to test every rule he meets. The consistency-testing and the busy, into-everything behavior are normal for his age but need addressing now, with clear and fair handling, so they settle into good manners rather than hardening into habits.
Secondary Condition: Growth and easy-keeper management. As a still-developing two-year-old his joints and growth plates are immature, so his workload needs to stay light and age-appropriate until he is grown. On top of that, the native pony type is an easy keeper prone to weight gain and laminitis on rich pasture, so his grazing and diet need watching to keep him sound and at a healthy weight.
History: Court was born at Lios na Sí Stables out of the mare Chlorociboria aeruginascens, one of a surviving set of twins, which is remarkable on its own given how rarely both equine twins make it. He has been home-raised and well-handled from the start, with no trauma in his background, and has bonded closely to Belphie, who has taken on bringing him along. His quirks all stem from youth and a quick mind rather than any bad history.
Rehabilitation and training approach:
Clear, consistent, fair handling that never leaves a rule fuzzy, so his cleverness has nothing to exploit
Short, frequent, engaging groundwork sessions that match his attention span and reward his curiosity instead of fighting it
A patient, trust-first foundation that lets the partnership build before any ridden work, leaning into the loyalty he gives to people he trusts
Light, age-appropriate handling plus managed grazing and diet, protecting both his growing body and his easy-keeper metabolism
