I like how this can be interpreted in two ways: obviously the first one is that the knight is running with his friend on his back to get him out of harms way. But what if it's the other way round: the knight on his back was mortally wounded and said, "Dude I'm not getting out of this alive, shield yourself with my body and make a run for it", thus helping his friend even in death.

I'm reminded of Jojo's part 4. When someone had the golden arrow through their neck, and their friend was going "don't worry, I'm going to save you!" I'm pretty sure that arrow is through their wind pipe AND spinal cord. But good to have goals.
