All three of them should be fined into bankruptcy. But Dick Cheney and the Sackler family are part of the Club, whereas Alex Jones isn't. Once you're in The Club, you get to anything you want with zero accountability.

Although I did recently see that the Sacklers were forced to pay a settlement to all the states affected by the opioid epidemic. It's nice because states like mine get extra revenue that they can use to help citizens like me, rather than that money being hoarded by some rich parasite.

Why should alex jones be fined into bankruptcy for just being wrong about something. His case is fundamentally different than the others, they were justifying their corruption, he was just a crazy guy who didn't stand anything to gain from what he said. But I really hate the idea of someone being fined a billion dollars for the "crime" of being wrong about something. And I do think he believed what he said, he wasn't even lying, he was just wrong about it.

No, he wasn't "just wrong" about it. Consider this, first there was never ANY evidence to support anything that Jones said. Second, he targeted those families who's children were murdered, deliberately and provocatively. This led to those families, already grieving for the loss of their children, to being abused and harassed by a range of Jones' adherents to the point where they were threatened with violence if they "didn't come clean". Jones himself encouraged his followers to do this, so no, he wasn't "just wrong about it", he got everything he deserved.

No one is the least bit responsible for what anyone else does unless they actually explicitly incited violence, and Jones didn't. He didn't ask his listeners to harass anyone. And what constitutes "harassment"? Angry looks, or a brick through the window? If the former, should Jones have to pay a billion dollars for that, and if the latter, could anything he said be construed as asking them to do that? How far do you think that should be taken? If I said "I think the moon landing was faked" and then someone else hears me say that and goes and murders Buzz Aldrin, do you think I should go to jail for murder? I mean, that's a rhetorical question, of course you do, because you're a collectivist cultist, you've already said as much.

No matter how you argue the point, the fact remains that the families of those kids sued, they proved their case, the penalty imposed was determined by the Court and upheld on appeal. Unless you have the full transcripts, which I don't, I can only derive my opinions from the publicly released and reported materials, and those are fairly compelling. No-one is infringing on Jones' 1st Amendment rights, but those rights do not extend to deliberately lying and knowingly defaming those parents. If you are a MAGAt, then you can lie as much as you like and not expect any repercussions, after all, that is what Trump does all the time.

And as for Buzz Aldrin, you should watch the video of his reaction to that precise comment. Like most such conspiracy theories, the fake moon landing theory does not hold up to close scrutiny, like Jones' comments about Sandy Hook.

I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of having my small child murdered by a lunatic, especially since I managed to avoid parenthood.

But to then have a worthless piece of shit get rich by claiming it was all a hoax. That must be unbearable. Jones is lucky none of his victims flipped and shot him.

What I liked about this was that his First Amendment rights were respected. Yes, he did have the right to vomit verbal poison into the faces of the innocent.

But he was made to take responsibility for his actions by being stripped of his ill-gotten gains.

I am deeply ashamed to admit that had I been a bereaved Sandy Hook parent I would not have shot him - I would have poured gasoline over him and added a match.

That's the traditional way of disposing of garbage.

As for the injustice of the first two getting away with it, I fully agree.

Anyway, hope you're keeping well.

Cheers

Exactly.

"What I liked about this was that his First Amendment rights were respected. Yes, he did have the right to vomit verbal poison into the faces of the innocent." As you say, and as I said - it isn't a crime.

But the harm he did to his victims - the bereaved - he was called to account for in a civil damages lawsuit.

And rightly so.

It is no bad thing, though, for me to be reminded that there are people who actually, genuinely, believe this kind of garbage. Otherwise Jones could not have got rich out of other people's suffering.

Cheers

Whining little shit JasonWolfe has blocked me. So here's my reply to his BS.

*

Although I never had children, I have observed the strong emotional bonds people form with their children. So to have one's child murdered by an armed lunatic like that is a level of anguish beyond my imagination.

To then have some cynical liar make a fortune by lying about it, including being harassed by people who believed the bullshit is a level of pain that I cannot even imagine. Only a sociopath could fail to recognise that. And for what? So some liar can get rich?

As for the mass murder itself, no, banning guns is not the answer. Here in the UK we recently had a lunatic run amok in a dance class for kids with a knife and killed three little girls. The only difference is that with a gun he would have killed more.

I will also say, for third time -

"What I liked about this was that his First Amendment rights were respected. Yes, he did have the right to vomit verbal poison into the faces of the innocent." As you say, and as I said - it isn't a crime.

Anyway, that's what we have courts for. Jones got what he deserved, being relieved of his ill gotten gains. And he's still alive - unlike the Sandy Hook victims.

Cheers

JasonWolfe has blocked me as well. My reply to his comment below was:

Do you even consider people like us "people" even? No, you don't? This is the hallmark of psychopaths. Not admitting the people who disagree with you are people, would make you a sociopath. I guess it easier to push them into ovens, then. In short, you are a serious danger to your own society, as you obviously believe in freedom for you and only for you and those like yourself but for no-one else. The irony is you fail to grasp this as you really don't believe in freedom and justice and the American Way....

Iraq had WMDa. We still have the receipts for the chemical weapons WE sold him to use on the Iranians. We also found a mobile lab with evidence of anthrax production. In all likelihood, amy WMDs either remain buried to this day or were sent to Syria. Anyone who would know where they are is either dead or disappeared.

I agree, the first two should suffer penalties commensurate with their crimes.

What Alex Jones did, though, while strictly "retail" compared with the genocidal "wholesale" of the other two is like saying Hitler and Stalin should burn in Hell while Jack the Ripper should walk free.

Jones committed an abominable act, and he did it systematically, over a long span of time.

So WHAT. Yeah, denying the sandy hook massacre is a crummy thing to do, it's like denying the holocaust, but here in AMERICA we're supposed to have this thing called freedom of speech, and it's not supposed to be a CRIMINAL ACT to be WRONG about something. He wasn't even lying about something, because he actually believed what he said, he was just wrong about something. Him having to pay a MILLION dollars would be an egregious Orwellian failure of the core values of America. But him being charged a BILLION... that's Clown World. Welcome to Clown World. If anything, the fact that he was charged a billion dollars, GIVES his conspiracy theory credibility. Because that MAKES the "grieving families" into EXACTLY what he was accusing them of being, of being shameless actors out for monetary gain using sympathy for children as a tradeable commodity. How dare they happily destroy the foundation of america and use their dead children to steal money.

He is not personally responsible for the actions of his followers. Also, you apparently don't know just how much $1,000,000,000 actually is. Because even if Alex Jones really was directly responsible for the harassment, $1,000,000,000 is still waaaay too much for something like that.

Given that A) those actions were the (however indirect) result of him committing defamation against the victims' families, and B) he continued to defame them once it had become clear what his followers were doing while doing nothing to discourage his followers' actions, I would argue that he was still responsible.

Even if Alex Jones was allowed to pay only $55 million over 10 years instead of the whole $1 billion, he still deserved those penalties within the court of law for helping subject grieving families to unnecessary harassment at the hands of conspiracists, by propagating information that he himself couldn't bother proving when told to. And if you were in the shoes of one of the families, that had to bury their own fucking children, you would think so too...

I'm pretty sure that Alex Jones is literally a human monster, worse than a health insurance company CEO, who knowingly destroyed human lives on an individual basis for the sake of selling more yak-snot skin lotion.
