Description
Previous tutorial:Welcome to a new Patreon tutorial!
Like last month's tutorial, this was sponsored by not one, but TWO super generous Patrons - and RedWolfDreaming! Thank you!
After discussing how to draw the front paws, this month's suggestion was about rear paws!
Because many of the steps are essentially the same as the previous tutorial, I have focused on the anatomy of the paws in various animals, as well as a note on anthropomorphic digitigrade characters!
I hope that you find this interesting and helpful Enjoy your read!

I've never seen someone cover anthros in such sensible detail. You're a master!

As someone who struggled with rear legs for the longest time (and is still working on them!), I find this extremely helpful! Thank you so much for posting it!

I see people making mistakes in this area ALL the time, this is super helpful. I will send people your way
the short shin issue always annoys me because somehow I learned that intuitively. the shin and thigh don't have to be the same length. it's just if you have a short thigh you've gotta have a long foot (e.g. birds). and you sure as heck can't have a significantly LONGER thigh than shin.

YELLS THANK U.....................
i've managed to more or less figure out forelegs but hind legs were always a mystery that eluded me... especially the way they bend when an animal is sitting, what.
bless

I JUST REALIZED: In the lower part of the leg, the bones are called TIBIA/FIBULA, not radius/ulna. I mixed them up with the arm bones, oof.
I kept calling them radius/ulna throughout the rest of the tutorial, so whenever you see the words "radius/ulna", it's actually "tibia/fibula" XP
Sorry for the confusion!

personally I do not believe that it is useful in a design to know that such bone is in such place, on the other hand in biology its serves and its can serve for those who make studies to become veterinarian

That makes a lot of sense. I recently drew a bipedal werewolf and it just looked wrong until I made her paws huge.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for adding feathers to the T-rex even when drawing it as a rough sketch! Most people don't do that even though feathers have now been considered to be more basal to dinosaurus, going very far back the lineage. Very few artists actually do this, even though we don't draw bears without fur or birds without feathers, so props to you!
That's for all of this! It was pretty helpful!

I'm so happy you noticed that I love the thought of feathery T-Rex! Even though no fossils have been found that specifically prove that Rexes had feathers, many close relatives of Tyrannosaurus have been proved to be at least partially feathery, so it makes sense that Rexes had some sort of feathery cover too :D
I'm so happy you found this helpful! Thank you ^_^

There's actually some evidence to the contrary, some scaly imprints have been found around the body, however, many agree that the T-rex might have had a feathery mohawk going from it's head to it's... anywhere really. could even end at the tail, sort of like a zebra or horse mane, and it probably also had some sort of primitive wings on it's arms, both of which you nailed!
However, it is also true that the chicks and the juveniles might have feathers but lost them as they got older, or maybe they had some sort of a winter/summer coat system, shedding feathers as the seasons changed.
Maybe both!

if I was not dyspraxic I could finally get into art with your advises, but I had to be born dyspraxic, what a wound

merci, for your encouragement and for making me known inkscape, it only remains to see tutorials to know how to use it, although in my opinion I would be less gifted than you (I still managed to get fired from a drawing class because I was the worst student of all my mother's friend could have had)

personally I do not find it cruel because in my opinion it is better to say a wounded truth than to lie

Thank you so much. I have always had problems with properly drawing back paws on a character I'm designing, but thanks to you I can do it properly!!!
