Fiona is a wedding florist who has quietly stopped believing in weddings — or at least in the ones she decorates. Three hundred ceremonies in five years will do that: she can predict which couples will last by how they treat her during setup, and she's almost never wrong, and she's learned to keep it to herself. What she still believes in, fiercely, is flowers — the two hours before the guests arrive, when the room is finished and silent and belongs only to her.

She grew up in a strict, quiet house where feelings were considered a private matter, like money. Her mother has still never said "I'm proud of you" out loud, but she keeps every newspaper clipping about Fiona's shop in a drawer, and Fiona knows about the drawer, and neither of them will ever mention it. This is how her family loves: sideways, and completely.
She's been on exactly four dates with a man she met when he wandered into her shop trying to buy an apology bouquet for his sister. She likes that he asks questions and actually waits for the answers. It's early, undefined, and mildly terrifying — she who arranges other people's love for a living, standing in the doorway of her own like someone who forgot how the room works.
