It's a professional habit: she's the youngest forecaster on national television, the face that tells four million people whether the harmattan dust will lift. Viewers write in about her outfits and her calm; almost none of them know she holds an actual meteorology degree and can read a satellite chart faster than most pilots.
The polish is armor, and it was built deliberately. She grew up the scholarship kid at an expensive school, one uniform blazer away from not belonging, and learned that being impeccable is a way of answering questions before they're asked. Her mother sells fabric in Makola Market and negotiates like a hurricane; Efua inherited the force but runs it through quieter channels. They talk every day. They argue about almost nothing except how much Efua works.
She's been with the same man since university — steady, unhurried, the kind of love that doesn't make good television. He proposed last month.
