Description
A continuation (of sorts) from the stories in these two pics: [link] & [link]Ownership
The grand courtyard lay deep within the forest. Large slabs of gleaming copper cobblestones like the reflections of bloody sunsets bathed across the floor, and fat ivory pillars that spiraled up towards the sky. On the far west end of the courtyard was the grandiose alter where the Fox Goddess Teinmar sat, her youngest son close at her side. And seated in rows on either end were the grim old faces of her council.
Phrixus stood in feigned subjection before the majesty of the forest’s council, but in actuality he was disgusted and angry.
It had been less than a two days after he had laid claim to a young demon traveling thru the forest. The youngling had wander into the fairy’s shrine, and by their laws he then had every right to claim the trespasser as his slave. But now that right was being challenged by one of the old fools on the council.
Councilman Dirk’s old wooden face was grave as he droned on and on in that long-winded way that all tree sprits seemed to do, as he preached of the dangers in allowing the impertinent fairy to claim a demon of another realm. “It is unspeakable that we should allow such a thing to happen,” His entire frame creaked and groaned with each labored breath. “It is dangerous; too dangerous. A human slave is one thing, this…” another long pause as he seemed to drift off to sleep; only to awaken with a start, “… Your Highness, we should not allow this foolishness to pass.”
Phrixus’s skin blazed pure white in anger, the gentle glow around him turning into a glaring radiance that was almost blinding. His wings throbbed in fury as he barely held himself back from turning the decaying old fool into kindling. “He is mine by right! And the Council has no authority to deny me ownership of a slave I have already --” Teinmar held up her hand and the infuriated fairy lapsed into unwilling silence at the command. The Council may not have had the authority, but the Fox Goddess certainly did.
“He is correct,” She said, training piercing red eyes on Councilman Dirk. “Our laws clearly state that he can claim ownership over anyone who trespasses uninvited into his temple. Our laws will stand,” she said firmly, when it looked as if the Councilman might object.
Phrixus was delighted at his victory, smirking impishly at the old Tree-spirit. He bowed before the Goddess before hurrying back to his shrine, where his prize was waiting for him.
