Interrogation — Description
Andis (as she called herself) had been discovered hiding in a basket in a caravan entering the city, with enough gold in her pockets that a plot was surely in the making. Threats of force had proved useless in uncovering her real reason for sneaking into the city. Stripping her of her rich garments, until only her most intimate apparel was left, also had not loosened her tongue. Placement in the rack finally elicited a response, but only a denial of any crime or plot. She had merely wanted to see the magnificence of Port Glintwater for herself she said. The buildings were famed for their opulence after all.

Sendal shook his head at such a story. It was most unconvincing. As Head Interrogator for the King he had heard many stories over the years from those he had brought to this room. Some were fanciful, some were honest. All had to be dealt with in the proper way.

He raised a toothed club menacingly in front of the prone and helpless woman and began to describe in intricate detail the sorry state she would find herself in if she did not divulge the full details of her coming to the city. That at last provoked a useful and honest response. Swallowing hard and pale with fear she began to explain the plot she was mixed up in. Sendal breathed a sigh of relief. She was much too beautiful to mar in his opinion.
